Monday June 29th was the end of the Rotary Club of Springwood 2019-2020 board. As invited members and guest gathered at the Ori Hotel to celebrate what started out as another year of fundraising, collaboration and support to the community and beyond, many activities came to a halt in March because of COVID-19. The 2019-2020 year started out with drought then bushfires as well as floods with the second half greatly affected by COVID-19.
It certainly was a turbulent year for our club but we still managed to donate a total of over $31,512. The bulk of it going towards the following: Cambodia Village Project, Centurion Foundation, Bowel Scan, Club donations to Rotary Foundation, Taree and Mid Coast Bushfires Appeal, South Coast Flood relief, Rotary Club Blackheath Bushfire Appeal, Shelter Box, Rotary Health, ROMAC, Juvenile Diabetes, Destin Rescue, Interplast, Variety Club, Hat Day (Mental Health), Wentworth Community Housing, Care Flight, Talking Gazette and Gluten Free Christmas Hampers.
Outgoing President David thanked his board as well as having the pleasure of announcing 3 Paul Harris Fellows, Jenny Thomas, Frank Ross and Richard Bell (Friend of Rotary) and the Duncan Berriman Award going to Valda Bray. The Rotary Hero awards went to two ladies from Bunnings, Di and Sonya, along with our own Marilyn Kenney (Marilyn has been keeping our club in contact each week with all our Zoom meetings along with Coffee Mornings for members and friends of Rotary).
We also celebrated Charter Member Alan Cameron’s 90th birthday with a cake.
As per current regulations, the incoming board members, partners, and friends will be meeting up at The Ori next Monday night to see the start of another year of the Rotary Club of Springwood. Following from that, our club will still be meeting via Zoom until the regulations of group gatherings change when we can all meet together.
