Tonight we celebrated our 46th Changeover at Memories Function Centre at Wallsend . Our thanks go the management and staff for such a great venue for our meetings.
We were honoured by the attendance of District Governor Gerard McMillan who made the time to attend our changeover night
with his partner Yvonne Palmer and our District Governors representative Keith Harcombe.
Grant Pettigrew was our MC for the evening and did a sterling job of keeping things moving along.
As we are only a small club many of the positions by necessity are being repeated once again  for the year 2015-2016. We welcome Michael  Grant to the Board of Directors as our new Vocational Service Director replacing Doug Tudor.
Chris gave the toast to Rotary International and ran a short video clip showing the wonderful work Rotary does, District Governor  Gerard responded to the toast  highlighting the points Chris raised and gave a short talk on the world president and his aims and objectives times for his year, in particular the theme of "Light Up Rotary" which we have all embraced at sometime during this year.
The highlight of the night was when district Governor Gerard announced he had some special duties to perform namely the presentation of 2 Paul Harris Fellowship Awards,  one to Helen McGrath and one to President Fred Neal.
To say that Helen was overwhelmed would be an understatement and a total surprise would also be and understatement. What an honour! Helen has always been my side and supported me in all my Rotary endeavours,  supported the club whenever called upon and has opened her home to conduct training sessions, meetings etc., let me tell you this no mean feat to be hostess and organise these events. She is very proud of the award and humbled, and she will treasure it forever. Is this the first time the club has made an award outside of it's members?
I think President Fred was also a little taken aback with his award but as was mentioned Fred does do a lot outside of Rotary to assist the community, particularly his work on keeping Braye Park in a good condition.
Howard and Gerry gave a presentation past and present on the activities of the members  with some interesting photos and captions to boot! Well done Howard and Gerry, we look forward to more interesting shots in the future.
We were fortunate this year to have 7 of our members Doug, Ron, Gerry, Nev, Madeleine, Brian and David achieve 100% attendance with barely a makeup outside of the club. This really speaks well for the dedication of our members. We also had 5 members who achieved 95% or better during the year, well done!
In conclusion, another great night of fun and fellowship with Madeleine, Yvonne and Gerard conducting a very successful raffle with some wonderful prizes to boot! Thank You.
Oops, nearly forgot the most important award of the night, "The Stirrers Award" this year jointly held by Gerry and Chris, well done.
                                           That's all til next time
