Youth Assistance Coalition was founded in 2017 by a group of motivated volunteers who saw the pattern of youth homelessness in San Diego and wanted to break it. From the beginning, YAC has focused on a community approach to breaking this pattern, and has built up powerful partnerships with many other organizations in San Diego who are also committed to helping these youth get off the streets in a lasting way. Our mission is to positively impact the lives of youth experiencing homelessness through empowerment, mentorship, and community collaboration in order to provide transformative opportunities. We are a 100% volunteer-run organization, and we rely on the support and kindness of our community to be able to provide much-needed services to San Diego’s homeless youth population. |

There are now 8 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in San Diego County which is concerning local health officials.
In fact, the COVID-19 threat is so great, San Diego Unified School District along with almost every other school district in the County is cancelling classes for the next two weeks to help control the spread of coronavirus and that should alarm all of us.
Out of an abundance of caution, and in consultation with the Public Health Officials, I am canceling our next 3 meetings and we will meet again in 4 weeks or when the risk to coronavirus exposure is diminished.
Since the majority of our members are in a "high risk" category if exposed to COVID-19 I feel that this is the prudent thing to do.
It would be terrible if one of our members was exposed to COVID-19 by a hotel guest who was traveling from a high risk area or by exposure to hotel staff who may have been accidentally exposed. |

Included in this email is the invitation to join our regular Rotary meeting Thursday 8am hosted by me and lead this week by Mark Powell. Join Zoom Meeting Our speaker this week is Dr. Ann DePeyster. Ann volunteered to participate in the annual homeless survey so vital to getting outside funding for services to the local at risk population. The survey was conducted in the 4th quarter of 2019 and a summary of results were published without many of the details available in previous years. Ann dug into available resources to add important material helpful in understanding this ongoing community challenge. All this was before the emergence of COVID-19, massive layoffs, record unemployment and the reduction of tax revenues helpful in funding solutions for the homeless population. This will be an "inside" look at time of great challenge. Please contact Steve Cross, so he can include you in his email to connect to the meeting. If you need assistance to get on to Zoom or locating some of the controls please contact Steve in advance of Thursday's meeting. |

Gathering to celebrate Mark Powell near the end of our event will be brief - 6 feet apart for under 15 minutes outside is a good guideline. No disrespect to Mark, just our reality now. You can also sit in your car and flash your lights. Your presence is a salute to Mark. The lower parking lot at Mt. Soledad has two openings ; I would like to have you drive past the first and enter the lot using the second opening. Less traffic congestion is the reason. I'll have photos available tomorrow morning. Masks are the current guidance from the Governor and I hope you will all wear one at the event to increase everyone's comfort. |
