La Jolla's Nautical History Gallery
May 10, 2018
Joseph Frangiosa, Jr. is a curator, craftsman, artist and historian who specializes in handmade one-of-a-kind nautical history displays. In case you hadn’t noticed Joe’s little Nautical History Gallery and Museum across from the Maserati dealership on Pearl Street you really should note the hours he's open for business and stop in. His collection of historical ship models and related treasures will blow your mind. A description of Joe on the Gallery’s website says this: “I will produce any structure, concept or idea from the research of texts, drawings or photographs into a three dimensional format. Any time period or item of interest is possible. The ships and cases are handmade, utilizing poplar and basswood. Other materials, such as brass/aluminum tube, jewelry pieces, plumbing PVC, and leather eyelets, to name a few, are used to accent and detail the construction. Most of the displays to date come together to reflect revolutionary changes in Naval Technology, from the “Age of Sail” circa 1800 to the “Steam Era” circa 1900 and then the Aircraft Carrier.” You are encouraged to take a peek inside the books he was asked to bring in addition to examples of these spectacular models. The books include details of other specially commissioned creations that you won’t see at his La Jolla Gallery and Museum or at the San Diego Maritime Museum where Joe also works on displays and where some of his other models are on loan. Joe says his experiences serving in both the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps helped to develop his strong interests in historical research. But we should let him elaborate on how he developed this unique trade and his vision for the Gallery. |

The Mission
Our mission is to locate our homeless veterans and provide assistance by aiding them with basic daily needs. Simply put, we use the money from our sales to create care packages containing new socks, new shirt, tooth paste, tooth brush, water, and a meal. The care package is our way starting the conversation and ultimately finding out what exactly the homeless veteran needs to get off the streets. |

District Governors (DGs) provide leadership, inspiration, and guidance to Rotary clubs under the general supervision of the Rotary International Board of Directors. In each jurisdiction or district, the Governor serves as the regional officer of Rotary, fostering success in their district at the club level. Across the globe, Rotary Districts fluctuate in size and geography. District 5340 spans all of San Diego and Imperial Counties, as well as a portion of Riverside County. The District Governor is nominated by the Clubs in their district to represent Rotary International. The District Governor is selected by a nominating committee, usually chaired by the Immediate Past District Governor. That committee is responsible for publicizing the nomination process, reviewing all applicants for the position, and then communicating the results of the selection process to members of the District. Each District Governor serves a one year term, but that individual often fills many roles in the lead-up to year as serving as District Governor. In advance of their year, each District Governor will appoint Assistant Governors to assist in managing activities in the District, and to help facilitate projects that involve multiple clubs. District 5340 has a District Governor (current year), a District Governor Elect (DGE) the next year, and District Governor Nominee (DGN) the following year. Depending on the time of year, a District may also have identified a District Governor Nominee Designate.
Within District 5340, Past District Governors (PDGs) serve a vital role as de facto members of the Advisory Council. The Advisory Council is an advisory body that provides mentoring, guidance, and assistance to current leaders.
Learn more about these dynamic individuals who have served (and will serve) as District Governor by selecting from the links to the left.

Boca Roja Baja Wine Adventures
Sep 13, 2018
Tim is an adventurous spirit who constantly seeks out new challenges and experiences. Whether he is hiking with his Siberian Husky Loki, surfing, camping, or cooking, Tim will very intentionally find the best way/place/time to do it, and stretch his personal excellence in the process. This appetite for new challenges drew him to Baja to surf big waves, where he fell in love with magic of the region, (and eventually Katie, too!). Mexico became the place they ran to whenever there was time. Meanwhile, back at home, Tim was suffering a near-death experience with boredom working as an investment analyst at a small company. He and Katie dreamt of an opportunity to share their very favorite adventures with others, and Boca Roja was born! He and Katie (the First Lady!) just got married in Bali! |

Tim and his wife Katie, co-founders of the top-rated wine and food tour company Boca Roja | Baja Wine Adventures will visit to share their story of passion for the beautiful region in our own backyard, Northern Baja. This passion for travel, culture, people, food, wine, and of course, surf, led them into the burgeoning wine region Valle de Guadalupe which is only 2 hours south of San Diego and home to over 160 wineries! Both Tim and Katie were fully engaged in successful careers in the Financial Services industry when they discovered this region and quickly recognized the amazing opportunity to develop a high-end travel experience platform to showcase this amazing region. |
