Program:

Impromptu Program Speaker…  Past President and Scholarship Committee Chair, Mark Hoekstra presented the program…

Mark shared that our scholarship program up to this point has focused on a partnership with Cal State University, San Marcos… We have been preparing to fund an endowed scholarship with the University… With some other consideration in mind as to funding possibilities and the amount of control desired by Escondido Sunrise, Mark presented some options that the Club’s Scholarship Committee will be considering in the near future.

Past President Mark Hoekstra presenting to the Club….

In a nutshell, we have the choice of placing our program under the auspices of the University as an endowed scholarship; much of the control for selecting recipients will lie with the University… Or, we can place our funds with the Rotary Foundation through a Donor Advised Fund… Each option was reviewed by Mark as to their benefit for the Club’s program…

The following slides identify differences in the investment and management process. Escondido Sunrise has been setting aside funds for a Scholarship Program for the past few years, and is prepared to contribute approximately $26,000 to either endow a program at CSUSM or to deposit with the Rotary Foundation Donor Advised Fund…

This final slide identifies the pros and cons of both options.  From this point forward, Club Members are encouraged to ask questions and make suggestions to Mark and the Scholarship Committee… A decision on the action pathway will be made within the next month…
