Jenny, our new Peace Chair, has the following events available for us to donate our time towards this upcoming month through July.

1) Hands of Peace - On Saturday 7/28 from 1:30-3:30pm (this will be after the Urban Street Angels 5K) at Pacific Ridge School. HOP runs on volunteers and on this day, the kids sit down to write thank you notes to all the volunteers. Since English is a second or third language for them, they need a little help. So the volunteer work is pretty easy but you get to know these great kids.

2) Hands of Peace Farewell Celebration - On Sunday 7/29 4:30- 8:30pm anyone in our club that wants to go to this great event is welcome. Jenny will get or pay for tickets for Rotarians. It's a chance to get to hear from the kids as they speak publicly about their moving experience in the 3 weeks with HOP. You also get a chance to meet those that have started and now run HOP nationally. These are remarkable people who have moved mountains and won awards (some Rotary) for their work. There is ample opportunity to volunteer at this event as well. Any 2 hour interval from noon to 9pm on 7/29 is open to help set up, organize and clean up for this event. 

3) Out of the Boat Swim - this organization is planning on teaching 50-60 City Heights elementary kids how to swim from July 30- August 17, every Mon, Wed, Thurs early afternoons. They need adults to just help organize the kids from the van pickup at Ibarra School to the park, into swim clothes and to the pool. Volunteers are also there to watch over the pool with the swim instructors, get the kids back out of the pool after class and escort the kids back to Ibarra.
