While Lindsay is having some much deserved time off to spend with her new addition, she has graciously allowed me to take over the Bulletin for a few months. I'd like to play around with the design a bit, so please give me some feedback. I'm putting the club information first, then district, then RI news. Please send me some fun stories and pictures and I will do my best. I would like everyone to at least skim the bulletin every week including all district and RI news. In the end, the bulletin should not only make you better informed, but also happy you belong to this great organization and motivated to do more - come to a club or district meeting, join other Rotarians for some fun. This month there are Padres games, movies, paddle boarding and even a circus option - all for great causes. Thanks, Jenny
As you probably know Lindsay and Carson are expecting their first baby this month. We do not know the gender yet but do know this will be a very special kid. The Rotary Baby Shower for Lindsay on July 28 was a great success. It was so much fun, that we all forgot to take photos - must do better next time! Craig and Michelle's home and backyard were stunning and beautifully decorated for the event. The fresh Mexican food was amazing and the margaritas flowed liberally. Michelle made killer desserts. Claire, Clark and Harvey added to the entertainment. We put together a time capsule for Baby Boddicker's 18th birthday and created pages for a baby book. Lindsay is doing great and looking fantastic. The baby guessing game is on - see the predictions below. We will keep you up to date. The winner will get a nice bottle of champagne!
Let the Good Times Roll Gift Basket - items needed!
Kirsten would like our club to put together a basket for auction at the District Conference on September 10. Each member should contribute one item to the basket in the theme of 'Let The Good Times Roll'. Please give these items to April ASAP. Here are ideas: specialty food or drink items like chocolates and wine, card games, gift cards to restaurants/ bars, tickets to shows, sports events or movies, pampering items like lotions or soaps that smell and look great. Use your skills and offer to cook brunch or wash the dog? Or, give gift cards from a local store you love and want to patronize.
What: Epigenetics is the study of how your behavior and environment can change the way your genes work. Unlike genetic changes, epigenetic changes are reversible, do not change your DNA, but change how your body reads a DNA sequence. For example, epigenetics explains the metamorphosis of caterpillar to butterfly.

August 18 - Bogdan Matuszynski, Rotary Peace Fellow
What: Our speaker will be Bogdan Matuszynski, a Rotary Peace Fellow. Come hear about how he got interested in peace work in conflict zones and about his Peace Fellowship training. "Bogey" is a seasoned traveler with great stories and has an interesting day job you will want to hear about.

September 15 - Lindsay Smith, Jewish Family Service
Last year, JFS served more than 39,500 clients, including over 17,000 asylum seekers at the JFS Migrant Family Shelter. Jewish Family Service partners with people of all backgrounds to build stable and dignified lives. Some of their services include feeding people in need, helping families with parenting skills, loans, counseling and supporting victims of domestic violence. They are also a very important component of resettling and educating immigrants and refugees in our country.

Zoom District Membership Seminar - August 14, 9-10:30am.
This seminar will have a short training session followed by two breakout sessions to bounce ideas off other presidents and membership chairs. This is a great class to teach you how to attract and keep more members. Please register and your Zoom link will be emailed to you.
District Conference - September 10-12, 2021 at Hotel Del
The conference team is working hard to make this a fun celebration to reunite us in person. Join your Rotary family for this unique opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen leadership and friendships as we celebrate our clubs’ successes!
We are looking for 12 Advisors at District 5340's LEAD (Leadership, Ethics, Aspirations & Determination) Conference. There is no charge to Rotarians and those attending in the past say this is a really fun event. LEAD is a two-day weekend leadership camp for 8th grade students where Delegates discuss issues of ethical responsibility, improve leadership and communication skills, develop a positive outlook on service and life, and have fun with new friends. Delegates will originate from middle schools throughout our District.

You will see amazing performances by circus professionals throughout the evening. Tight-rope walking and juggling lessons are available for kids and adults.
