Pub Quiz!
We had an amazing day on Saturday, January 26 at the Pub Quiz, and we sure had a lot of fun. Thanks to Sarah for hosting the trivia game and Allen and Patti for organizing and promoting this event! Hopefully Patti can let us know Wednesday how much money we raised on Wednesday!

Janina Scarlet Clinical Psychologist February 6
Janina Scarlet is a Clinical Psychologist who understands that great stories can have a powerful impact on people. Stories can help  people relate to a fictional characters who overcome adversity and can help people heal. Janina uses tales of popular superheroes like Superman, Wonder Woman, Captain America and Batman to help recover from PTSD anxiety and depression in very creative ways. She has named her treatment Superhero Therapy and has written several books on the subject as well as presented her ideas to major conferences and provided training programs to hospitals and universities.  Bring your capes and come hear a very interesting lecture on February 6.
Dr. Madero Preventing Violence in the Workplace on Wednesday, February 13 and 20

Dr. Madero will discuss Preventing Violence in the Workplace on Wednesday, February 13 and 20. This will include discussion of the problem of workplace violence in the US, the best practices to prevent workplace violence, companies and organizations involved in the prevention of workplace violence and actual case examples where best practices have prevented a crisis. 

Dr. James Madero has more than 30 years' experience as a clinical psychologist and has worked in a number of mental health facilities. An expert in psychological testing, he has conducted several thousand psychological assessments in public and private schools, mental health clinics, and psychiatric hospitals. He has also served as a consultant to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

For the past 10 years, Dr. Madero has specialized in workplace violence prevention. Recognized as an expert in threat assessment and workplace violence prevention training, Dr. Madero has conducted hundreds of threat assessments of potentially violent employees for public and private sector companies and organizations, trained workplace violence prevention teams, as well as conducted workplace violence prevention trainings for thousands of managers, supervisors, and employees. Dr Madero is the author of workplace violence prevention training programs and materials, including online and computer-based training for managers, supervisors, and employees. He is the author of numerous publications and articles on workplace violence prevention. In addition, he is a frequent speaker at conferences and meetings around the country. 

 

February 27 Meeting- Movie Night
This meeting will deviate from our normal meeting spot. We will be watching Hotel Rwanda at Jenny's house and also have dinner. Our Rotary Scholar, Jean Paul, will attend this meeting as well, and he will answer questions as he lived through the genocide and wants to return to Rwanda one day to improve the situation there.
 
Also Jean Paul needs a ride to and from this event; he lives at USD. Please contact Jenny.
SDSU Roteract Mentorship Program
The SDSU Roteract Group came to our January 9 meeting, and told us about their mentor program. The mentorship program is designed to match Rotaract students from a wide variety of majors and career pursuits to someone in a similar field in Rotary. These students are looking for guidance on internships, career advice and planning, networking, resume building, and how to incorporate service and Rotary into their life. The time commitment is just 2 hrs a month and this program has the power to change lives!

More Than Music
The SDSU Rotaract Club are hosting our first benefit concert, More Than Music, on February 8th at our SDSU. All proceeds go to the SDSU Economic Crisis Response Team to support students who lost their homes to the California wildfires and also to the California Community Wildfire Relief Fund.
