Club Meeting at Leucadia Pizza

Please join us at 6:00pm this Wednesday at Leucadia Pizza for our regular club meeting. There will be food, drinks, and you'll hear about upcoming events and service opportunities.

On August 22nd, 2016, Dana Law finished the 2650 mile "Pacific Crest Trail", with 31 separate journeys over 13 years going North without missing a step. Dana tells all about this magnificent and challenging adventure. Discover its secrets, hear the stories, and see the pictures and video of this amazing journey that spans the entire west coast of America, and learn what it takes to travel long distances self-contained. The Pacific Crest Trail story is something you will want to hear.

SD Coastal Rotary is family-friendly and kids are always welcome. Guests can let us know if they'll be attending through RSVP on Facebook.

Little Free Library Install

Another Little Free Library Install is coming you way on Saturday, September 29th at 10am. This event should take about 2-3 hours. Chris and Craig will have all the tools and materials needed. Club members only need to bring books to fill library with, approx 20 would be perfect.

Zoo Day!

SD Coastal Rotary is sponsoring a zoo day! On October 28th, we will be going to the zoo with our friends/family, the Alshahhoud family and our Rotary Scholar, Jean Paul. We will need help transporting everyone from home to the zoo and back. Once there, we will tour the zoo in smaller groups since touring with one large group would be too difficult. We can plan lunch together at 1pm at a sit down restaurant. Jenny has created a tentative plan:

Jenny will escort the mom (Raouaa), the baby (Jenna - 7 months), and Malak (3 yrs). If there is someone else who loves babies who wants to help, Jenny would appreciate this.

There are 4 girls who are inseparable (Fatima, Zamzam, Heba and Rukaia - ages 7-12). They would love being shown around by 2-3 of our female Rotarians. Their English is excellent.

There is also Louay (14 yrs). He prefers to hang out with guys (he needs some role models!) and not with his little sisters. The dad (Nimr) might have to work that day, but he would enjoy partnering with Louay if he gets the time off.

Then we have Jean-Paul - our Rotary scholar from Rwanda getting his masters at USD. He has never been to a zoo before despite being from Africa and has never seen many wild animals! He is really looking forward to the visit.

This is an invitation to all our members and their friends and family. Please think about going and think about who you would most like to escort. Let Jenny know and details will be sorted.

Pre-Meeting October 3rd

Derek is holding a "pre-meeting" Wednesday, October 3rd at 5:30pm at Leucadia Pizzeria in regards to Membership. There will be discussion and formulation of a statue of limitations on membership dues, and the ability to put your membership "on hold" during financial hardship or any other number of reasons. The aim of this discussion is to create a proposal for our board to vote on during the next board meeting.

The Peace Day Challenge

Jill McManigal visited us last week and told us about her nonprofit, Kids for Peace. Kids for Peace is promoting the Peace Day Challenge, on September 21, which is one day devoted to celebrating the International Day of Peace. We challenge you to complete as many acts of peace as possible.This is a great activity to help introduce children to the concept of peace and how to be a peacebuilder.
