Larry Parenich, with Citizen's Climate Lobby, will be speaking about the basics of climate change. Larry considers himself a pro-business, fiscal conservative and scientist who has studied climate science at UCSD, Scripps Institute of Oceanography (SIO), and University of Chicago. He will also speak about what individuals, groups and governments can do to alter the course of climate change. The Citizen's Climate Lobby was started by a Rotarian, Marshall Saunders, from the Coronado Rotary Club in 2006. CCL maintains multiple connections with Rotary including the Environmental Sustainability RAG and also with the UN. CCL, like Rotary, is about solutions, not politics.
Larry Peranich - Citizens' Climate Lobby
Larry's talk starts with several reasons that he, as a conservative, accepts that humans are changing the climate. This leads into a discussion of the effects that we are seeing now, and that climate change is not just something that will happen to polar bears at some point in the future. Following that is a brief discussion of actions that we can take as individuals to reduce climate change and why individual actions, though important, are not enough. The final portion of the presentation is about a national approach to climate change that is supported by oil companies, environmental organizations, Republicans, and Democrats.
