Dear Santee-Lakeside Rotarians –
The COVID-19 virus has been affecting many of our local organizations and programs. Please read the following letter from District Governor Marta Knight.
Hello District Leaders,
I believe it is important to reach out to you directly with an update on our plans to continue to serve you safely and effectively through this evolving situation.
Today I was part of a conference call with our Zones 26-27 Director Johrita Solari and my class of 2019-2020, District Governors. We discussed the new Coronavirus developments and how this situation is affecting you, the members of all of our Districts. I gained insight into what we are all facing and the potential impact on our Rotary gatherings.
First and foremost, I want all of you to know that your Health and Safety will always be my top priority in whatever decisions are made by the District.
We cancelled our District Conference and District Training Assembly. These past few days RYLA, Model UN and many Club fundraisers have also been canceled.
I know that these were very difficult decisions, but were the best given the current circumstances. Many of these events can be postponed to a later date when things settle down and our members and participant health and safety will not be compromised.
Rotary International recommends that members follow the guidelines set by the Public Health Officials in our area.
Regarding holding your club meetings, every club is different. Each club has the opportunity to adopt whatever policy is appropriate for its circumstances. Discuss this with your board and your members and adjust accordingly. I know that your members will understand the importance of whatever decision you make.
We are working on making GoTo Webinar/meeting available to all the clubs. You can then hold your meetings and trainings on line. More information on this will follow.
We are also working on preparing and delivering the trainings from District Training Assembly to all of you.
I welcome your ideas and recommendations.
Due to these recommendations, and those of local and state public health officials, we are implementing the following changes:
  • We will not be having our weekly meetings through the end of March (so no meeting on March 19 or 26).  We will advise everyone about April as we get closer and get updated information from SDCC. At this time, the college is closed to groups and events until further notice, but they are updating their status regularly.
  • SDCC Impact Day on March 24th has been cancelled. We will participate next year.
  • The Santee Chamber Heroes Luncheon, honoring our Rotarian of the Year, Kaylyn, has been rescheduled to April 24th. Please mark your calendars. Therefore, we will be dark on Thursday, April 23rd so people can attend this luncheon instead.
  • We will update you about Rotarians at Work Day in a few weeks once we see how things are going.
  • Please keep your eyes out for notices and information on our Facebook page as well.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
