19 Jan 2023 Janet Simpson and Darlene McCarthy Cura Smiles Dental Jan 19, 2023 12:00 PM Cura Smiles is a non-profit organization dedicated to provided dental care to people in need. Janet Simpson, Clinic Coordinator Janet Simpson RDA, CDA has been working in dentistry for over 17 years. She has a clinical background in general and pedodontic offices. She earned a Bachelors of Education degree from SDSU in 2008. In 2010 she began teaching dental assisting at the community college level. In 2016 Mrs. Simpson became a registered provider of continuing education, presenting courses at dental conventions and online. Janet is thankful for the opportunity to serve and work alongside the wonderful volunteers at Cura Smiles Dental Clinic. Janet enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, scuba diving, and walking her puppy Cozy. Darlene McCarthy, Clinic Coordinator Darlene is a Registered Dental Assistant with Extended Function (RDAEF) in the state of California. Darlene has worked in all areas of dentistry for nearly 40 years. She has also been involved in various dental missions both domestically and internationally. She also enjoys non dental missions with her church including volunteering at the boulder shelter for the homeless, home building projects in Tijuana, orphanage clean up and restoration in Mexico. When she isn’t working in dentistry Darlene enjoys cycling, finding treasures to fix up and resell, and walking with her dog Lucy.

16 Feb 2023 Steve Weitzen Human Trafficking Feb 16, 2023 12:00 PM Steve was born in San Diego at a cost of $8. He followed by his two brothers, both 1 years and 2 months apart. His father was a court reporter and mother was a secretary with SD Unified. He had a lot of great experiences growing up. At 9 years old he learned to play golf, a sport he enjoyed as a way to make business connections throughout his career. At 13 he was the ball boy for the San Diego Rockets NBA team and got to meet many famous players including: Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Earl Monroe, Walt Frazier and Bill Bradley. At 17 he went to Japan as an exchange student at a time when you had to make a reservation with an international operator to make a call home. At 18 he studied in Mexico his first semester and met David Alfaro Siqueros, one of Mexico's famous muralist. In 1976, Steve backpacked throughout Europe and Israel, a country he has been to 12 times. Eventually Steve went to law school, met his wife Ava, worked for two insurance defense firms, then opened his practice January 1, 1990. His daughter Shana was born one week later. His son Aaron made Aliya to Israel. Steve joined our club in 2006, has served as President of the club, District Assistant Governor, Chief Assistant Governor and is a candidate to become our District Governor a few years from now.

13 May 2023 Stamp out Hunger Food Drive May 13, 2023 3:30 PM - 7:00 PM Help us collect all of the food donated by residents and businesses in Santee during the annual US Postal Workers Stamp out Hunger Food Drive. We will be unloading the postal trucks and bringing the food to the Santee Food Bank.
