Rotary Action Group Against Slavery
Jan 16, 2020 12:00 PM
Dave McCleary Bio Dave McCleary is a son, husband and father. He is a small business owner from Roswell, Georgia. He is a man with a heart for making a difference in other people’s lives by getting involved. In January of 2012, Dave volunteered as a ‘doorholder’ at the Passion 2012 Conference held in Atlanta. It was there he became aware of the Human Trafficking issue and felt the first sparks of desire to get involved. He learned that it’s not only happening worldwide in impoverished, third world countries, but in his own hometown community and other communities across the U.S. With two teenage daughters of his own, the reality of the issue became real and awareness led to action. As the President of the Rotary Club of Roswell at the time, the sparks quickly ignited into ‘how can we help’ stop this. Knowing the influence and vastness of Rotary, which embraces 34,000 clubs and 1.2 million members worldwide, collectively the many become one force. Dave spent countless hours attending meetings, contacting and working with non-profit groups already serving different aspects of this multi-faceted issue to learn and determine the best way Rotary could help to achieve the goal of stopping human trafficking/modern day slavery). Dave Founded End Human Trafficking Now in 2012 with the goal to bring awareness and action, these include Business Engagement, Effective Law Enforcement and Sustaining Freedom though empowering survivors.

New Neighbor Relief
Mar 12, 2020 12:00 PM
A NEW LIFE IN AMERICARefugee families arrive to the United States with high hopes of a better life after living in refugee camps for years. Their vision of the American dream fades quickly as they are faced with a whole new set of unfamiliar challenges, such as learning a new language, finding transportation, and getting a job. The government provides a short financial “grace period” during which these families are expected to become self-sufficient and fully-functioning members of society. With nothing but the clothes on their backs they seek help, only to be immersed in the complicated processes of bureaucratic agencies. Without the proper materials, training, and assistance how are they expected to thrive in this new society? Justin B. Mudekereza was born on Jan. 4, 1976 and is a citizen of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He fled his country in 2006 as a result of physical torture and threats on his life after the national elections. He is internationally recognized in many African countries for his efforts in fighting for social justice, human rights, and development. He is someone who does not keep quiet or stand by and watch when people are suffering around him. He is the 11th child of a family of 44 children of his late father. He learned to make peace, to share with others, and most of all to fight for them whenever they are victims of injustice of any kind. He is a husband and father to 5 children. His family is still in Africa (Uganda) as he waits for his asylum to be granted. His most notable achievements can be traced to the RD Congo, Uganda, and the United States of America. New Neighbor Relief recognizes that real help is accomplished with one-on-one assistance, love, and service. Local volunteers act as mentors as they are matched with specific refugee families with the end goal of helping them become self-reliant. This is accomplished through these 4 objectives:
