1.Meeting Chair:

President George welcomed all attendees. He acknowledged that we are all treaty people, that

it is our responsibility to improve our relationships between nations and understanding of local Metis and First Nations. As Rotarians we should apply our Four Way Test, this month striving to Build Goodwill and Better Friendships

Gilda led us in the singing of O Canda and Carole Bryant presented the blessing.

2.Speaker Name & Presentation:

Introduction of speakers: Mark Stefan

Today’s speakers were Kylie Beck (Director of Livestock and Rodeo) and Breanna Franklin (Marketing and Communications Manager) from Canadian Western Exhibition speaking on their annual agricultural trade show - Agribition. Started in 1971 the show incorporates a beef cattle show and trade show. The cattle show not only has purebred beef but also alpacas, sheep and bison. It is one of the highest genetic marketing operations in North America with some 1200 regular delegates from other counties including Australia, Mexico and Brazil. Annually they have some 1500 head of beef cattle and hold commercial cattle show and sale and a bull pen show. They have a number of youth events, a professional rodeo, heavy horse competitions, dog shows, the Canadian Grand Prix bull fighter’s competition and a Miss Rodeo event. The trade show has some 400 exhibitors (this year there are 132 new exhibitors).

The Agribition has a huge economic impact: Some $116.5 million in economic activity, $19.6 million in government revenues; $10.0 Federal, $9.3 Provincial, and $0.36 municipal. Trade show booth sales are some $998,300., vendor sales are $1.9 million and there is some $2.2 million in livestock sales.

There are numerous community events including the involvement of numerous students who visit Agribition.

As an addition to todays’ presentation President Al from the Eastview Club provided an update of the upcoming Adventures in Agriculture program. This long running program invites 18 students to spend 5 days at Agribition. The students will be at the November 28^th Eastview Meeting. A big thankyou to all who have provided billets for these students.

3.Birthday and Anniversaries:

Birthdays: Nick Kaufman on November 1st, Carole Bryant on November 3^rd and Gerald Fiske on November 21^st.

Anniversaries: Bob Terichow - 43 years from 1981, Wayne Lorch - 42 years from 1982, and Charles Keple - 23 years from 2001.

4.Reports and Announcements:

A highlight of todays meeting was the induction of a new member - Adewale Adeyemo. Proposed by Chinedu Ibegulem. WELCOME Adewale.

We are still serving meals at Soul’s Harbour. The third Thursday of every month. Upcoming dates: November 21^st, December 19^th, January 16th, February 20^th and March 20^th. Please mark your calendars so you can advise closer to the actual dates if you are available to volunteer. The folks we serve really appreciate us doing this. Those who have worked enjoy the fellowship. A great opportunity to be of service to the community.

Community Fund: To continue our long history of donations to various charities near Christmas the club and community fund boards advised we will make this year’s donation to Soul’s Harbour. The plan is to donate sufficient funds to cover the cost of the meals we serve. To facilitate this, they are asking each of us to consider a charitable donation to the Community Fund. These funds will be matched, up to $2,500., by the club. Stay tuned for full details.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE:

Some 50 folks attended the Polio Plus dinner at Lee’s Chop Suey. The evening raised $1,370. For Polio Plus. THANK YOU Toshi.
Nine club members visited Wayne Lorch’s antique car exhibit. It was most enjoyable and informative. We also visited Kathleen Lorch’s Elvis collection. A lot of history and good old Elvis’s music. Thankyou Wayne and Kathleen!

WHAT WILL WE DO:

November 12, 13, 21 and 26 - 12:30 to 2:30 - assist the library with their “Game of Life” Financial Literacy project involving high school students. Stay tuned for details.
November 27^th to December 22^nd and February 5^th to 23^rd - “Fire Watch” at the Globe Theatre. Performances ongoing but fire alarm system not yet operational. Need folks to keep watch for security purposes.
December 23rd - Salvation Army kettles at Costco. Times 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. A great opportunity for service to the community. Let Katherine (Katherine.m.bergman@gmail.com) know if you can volunteer.
