Club Meeting Report - March 3^rd, 2025

In-person - Delta Hotel - 12:00 Noon

 

President George opened the meeting with a warm welcome to all including seven members of the Eastview Club and two visiting Rotarians, Peter White of Hampton, N.B. and Bill Fitzsimmon of Calgary, West. We were not on Zoom today.

His treaty recognition: “Let us acknowledge that we are all Treaty 4 people. The Indigenous Peoples of the lands that we are on today were here first and we are now all here together. We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations and to improve our own understanding of local Metis, and First Nations. As we do so, as Rotarians, we should apply our Four Way test, this month seeking to build Goodwill and Better Friendships.”

President George led us in O’Canada and Carole Bryant provided the blessing.

Todays’ meeting was an opportunity for all attending to provide input as to what our club could undertake going forward - a new fund-raising project or working as a group to provide service to the community.

President George outlined our past successes - the Carol Festival (which ran for 82 years), our Legacy Project in which we provided very substantial financial support for the construction of Soul Harbour’s new building, and our present ongoing project - serving meals at Soul’s Harbour once a month.

All were asked to discuss this at their table during lunch and provide our ideas afterwards.

The thought was raised: “it is better to be a big part of something small than a small part of something big”.

There were a number of suggestions: reinstate our Lobster dinner (a fund raiser), have another highway cleanup day, have a “clean-up” Rotary Park project, volunteer at the Food Bank, build a better relationship with a First Nations group, set up information booth and host education awareness sessions for high school students to learn about Artificial Intelligence, host a series of Rotary “speaker evenings” where folks would listen to various professionals discussing topics their fields of expertise such as wills, seniors care or other items of interest, partner with the Regina Public Library’s Financial Literacy Program, Habitat for Humanity, Restore.

A number of great suggestions. Stay tuned.

Birthdays: Mark Stefan on March 4^th, Bob Nell on March 12^th and Amanda Lanoway on March 17^th.

Anniversaries: John Good - 42 years on March 1st; Chinedu Ibegulem - 2 years on March 1^st (was in Rotary previously in Lagos); Amanda Lanoway - 7 years on March 8^th.

Our sympathy to Katherine Bergman on the passing of her father.

Deaths: Former members Al Schreiner of our club and Bev Herman of Weyburn Club, Rotary Youth Exchange.

We held a minute of silence in remembrance.

Social Event: March 27^th - tour at the McKenzie Art Gallery followed with dinner at the Café.

Soul’s Harbour: Our next meal service is on March 20^th.  Hours 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Location: 1632 Angus Street. We need 8 to 10 people. Please let President George know if you can assist: carson@sastel.net

 

District Conference - May 9^th and 10th. This year, due to the International Conference being in Calgary, the District Conference will be virtual. Plans are to attend the Conference online at Access Communications. Folks from the Moose Jaw club are planning to attend. A good opportunity to attend a District Conference without travelling. Further detail will be forthcoming.

Golf: Eastview Club will be hosting their annual golf tournament on July 4^th.  Stay tuned for more information.

50/50: Today’s draw master was Joanna Alexander. The pot stood at $43.00. No winner.

Four Way Test. President George led us in the Four Way Test.
