Club Meeting Report - December 9th
In-person meeting - Delta Hotel - 12:00 Noon
Merry Christmas!
1.Meeting Chair:
President George welcomed all attendees including the Eastview members and all spouses that joined us for todays’ meeting.
His land acknowledgement: “We are all Treaty people on here on Treaty 4 which we all call home. The Indigenous Peoples were here first. This is also the homeland of the Metis. We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility to improve relationships between nations. As Rotarians we should apply our Four Way Test to this relationship so that it may be Beneficial to All Concerned.”
Al Hoeft, President, Eastview Club led us in the singing of O’Canada.
The blessing was given by Joanna Alexander.
2.Today’s meeting:
Today was our Annual General Meeting. Secretary Al Goudie referred to the minutes of the last AGM which had been circulated to all via email. There being no questions Al moved acceptance of the minutes as circulated. Seconded by Ian Yeates. Carried
In the absence of Treasurer, Katherine Bergman, Al referred to the financial statement recently circulated by email and Katherine’s comments which accompanied same. There being no questions Al moved acceptance of the financial statement as circulated. Seconded by Russ Hart. Carried.
Nominations for club officers:
President - Russ Hart; Past President - George Carson; Secretary - Al Goudie; Treasurer - Katherine Bergman; Communications - Joanna Alexander; Foundation - Ian Yeates.
Al called for any further nominations from the floor. There being none Carole Bryant moved nominations cease, Seconded by Wayne Lorch. Those nominated were declared elected.
Next AGM is on December 8th, 2025
NEW MEMBER:
Stewart Graham introduced Hannah Molano Batawan as a new member of our club. Hannah is the Donor Relations & Development Manger at Soul’s Harbour Rescue Mission. President George welcomed Hannah and confirmed her membership. He presented her with an information package and her new Rotary pin. Hannah was warmly welcomed by a resounding round of applause. WELCOME HANNAH.
Rotarians - please make sure to say hello to Hannah at our upcoming meetings so she feels fully welcome.
CHARITABLE DONATION:
Thanks to the generosity of our members President Gorege was able to present a $10,000.00 cheque to Soul’s Harbour. In her role as Donor Relations Hannah expressed their thanks. This year, with the present situation surrounding the mail, collections are below normal and our donation will go a long way to assisting Souls’ Harbour in it’s work in the community.
Christmas carol Quiz and sing along. Mark Stefan added a touch of competition to today’s meeting. Handing out questions with the objective being to try to match the clues with the name of a Christmas Carol. An interesting challenge enjoyed by all.
In the Christmas spirit we all joined together singing in a few Christmas Carols - led by Gilda on the key board and Al Hoeft leading the singing. Our efforts got the Christmas season off to a good start.
3.Birthday and Anniversaries:
Birthdays: John Good on December 12th.
Anniversaries: Rollie Hardy - 35 years on December 11th, Joanna Alexander - 16 years on December 23rd.
4.Reports and Announcements:
Community Service:
Our next opportunity to assist Soul’s Harbour meal program is On Thursday December 19th. We do this on the third Thursday of every month. Please volunteer as you are able.
We are scheduled to work the Salvation Army kettles on December 23rd at Costco.
5.Other Newsworthy Items:
50/50 draw run by Art Wakabayashi. Pot $333.00. Participants: Ian Yeates, Mark Stefan, Judy Taylor. The pot lives on!
An interesting addition to today’s draw. Richard Taylor had made an interesting puzzle which he gave as a prize. The objective is to rearrange the blocks in the proper sequence. Richard says the puzzle is free but if you want the solution you have to talk to him. The winner was Dr. Ann Grahame. Thank-you Richard. Good luck Ann.
Thank-you to all the members who assisted with today’s meeting - Carole Bryant assembled the team, Ian Yeates, Russ Hart, Adewale Adeyemo, Monica Totten, Bob Terichow, Al Goudie, Joanna Alexander, Art Wakabayashi, Gilda Treleaven-Graham, Mark Stefan, Stewart Graham and Al Hoeft (Eastview).
Social Events:
Some of the more enjoyable times in our club are when we get together for a social event. We have had a number of these. President George is looking for some ideas: Thoughts: a visit to the McKenzie Gallery “vaults” and lunch, wine tasting, mini-golf, pot luck. Other ideas? Please let President George know your thoughts.
The meeting closed with Mark Stefan leading the Four Way Test and warm Christmas greetings from President George.
