Club Meeting Report March 2nd, 2026
In-person, Delta Hotel - 12:00 Noon
1. Meeting Chair:
With the absence of president Russ due to illness (Get better quickly Russ) today’s meeting was chaired by Past President George Carson. George opened the meeting by welcoming all attendees, our friends from the Eastview Club, guests, and those joining us by Zoom. This was followed by the Treaty Acknowledgement emphasizing how our 4 Way Test can be our guide on what we think say and do in our dealings with this.
Gilda Treleaven-Graham led us in the singing of O Canada. Carole Bryant provided the blessing/Moment of Contemplation.

2. Speaker Name & Presentation:
Today we had the privilege of inducting a new member- Deepak Gupta. WELCOME Deepak.
We then enjoyed presentations by our two newest members - Jill Watson-Ruiters and Dr. Deepak Gupta.
Jill advised she is married with two children - 2 and 5 years of age. She is a member of Toastmasters International and, in her spare time enjoys reading. A 13-year internal project consultant with the City of Regina she is presently heading up the review of the REAL District. She was looking for an opportunity to volunteer and discovered Rotary. She believes our values are similar to her values and is looking forward to making a contribution to our club.
Deepak, who has a Doctorate in Chemical Engineering, is an award-winning business consultant and mentor who has worked in both industry and academia. His career in research, innovation, productivity and entrepreneurial initiatives have spread over three countries. He has experience in start-ups and large enterprises, manufacturing, energy, health, education, and information technology. His first exposure to Rotary was in India. He worked in Tampa, Florida, Edmonton and Toronto. In Scarborough he saw Rotary in action and upon arriving in Regina looked at Rotary. Thanks to a warm reception he has joined our club and looks forward to providing strong support to projects.
Adewale Adeyemo, leader of our Public Image Committee provided an update of the upcoming fundraiser- titled “AI on the Prairies” - an information session on Artificial Intelligence directed at small-business owners, students, professional, and fellow Rotarians. The date is June 11th at 5:30 PM and the planning committee is meeting regularly. They are looking to involve the U of R Rotaract Club. Some speakers have been confirmed. The committee is looking for volunteers. Can you assist?

3. Birthday and Anniversaries:
Birthdays: Mark Stephan on March 4th; Bob Nell on March 12th and Amanda Lanoway on March 17th.
Anniversaries: Amanda Lanoway - 8 years; John Good - 43 years.
4. Reports and Announcements:
Community Service - at Soul’s Harbour. Our next dates are March 19th and April 16th.
We serve meals and coffee, collect used dishes, and put away the tables. 4:00 to 6:00 PM, 1632 Angus Street. Eight to ten people required. An excellent opportunity to provide service to those folks who need a hand up.
Membership Moment - increasing our membership continues to be a priority. Rotary International have advised to continue as a District we need 1200 members. (As of Feb., 6ththe District had 1149 members). We are looking for new members such as Jill and Deepak who have just joined our club. We need to do more! Each of us should consider bringing in a new member. President Russ has suggested we ask our family, friends and acquaintances what they know about Rotary. You might be surprised who might appreciate being asked to join our club.
Congratulations to the Eastview club who have also just inducted two new members.
Announcements:
- The Rotary Club of Portage La Prairie is hosting it’s 75th Anniversary Gala on May 8th, 2026, from 5:30 to 11:30.
- Rotary is having some email issues with the new Nova system. Not everyone is getting emails from our DG Wayne. Please check your spam filter to see if you have not been receiving emails from the district.
- The District Leadership Conference is being held in Russel, MB March 27-29. An interesting experience. Al Goudie is attending. Let President Russ know if you are interested.
- The District Conference will be in Neepawa, MB May 8th and 9th. These conferences are an enjoyable learning experience. They are looking for donations of old winter jackets. Thanks to Joanna Alexander for donating an item from our club for the silent auction.
5. Other Newsworthy Items:
Thank you to those who assisted with today’s meeting: Adewale Adeyemo, George Carson, Al Goudie, Gilda Treleaven-Graham, Carole Bryant, Doug Keam and Stewart Graham.
50/50 draw was conducted by Stewart Graham. Carol Bryant won the pot last meeting so this week we started a new one. The opening pot was $18.50. No winner.
Four Way Test - led by Doug Keam to close our meeting.

April 7th, hosted by Regina Club - Speaker - Mark Stephan and associate Srivathsan Raghaven speaking on the State of World markets.
