1.Meeting Chair:

President George welcomed all to the meeting, both in-person and via Zoom. His treaty recognition acknowledged “We here are all Treaty 4 people” and emphasized that we “as Rotarians, should apply our Four Way Test, this month asking: “Is it Fair to All Concerned” and acknowledging that this has not been the case and we must strive to make it so.”

O Canada was led by Gilda Treleaven-Graham and Allen Gloudie provided the Blessing/Moment of Contemplation.

George thanked those who assisted with today’s meeting: setting up and taking down the sound system, greeting, attendance, O Canada, Blessing, 50/50 draw, 4 Way Test and recorder. Without these volunteers the meeting could not happen.

Immediately after our meeting the Community Fund held its AGM. Members of the committee re-elected were: Doug Keam, Ian Toms, Art Wakabayashi, George Carson and Al Goudie.

2.Speaker Name & Presentation Summary

Our speaker today was Lin Carr BSW, Perinatal Health Coordinator of the Regina Perinatal Network.

The Regina Perinatal Network is a program of the Regina Early Learning Centre. Her topic - Mental Health for mothers. Their services are to provide prenatal and postpartum support both one-on-one and in groups.

Lin provided an in-depth review of the various risk factors that contribute to mental health difficulties in mothers - both prior to and after the birth of their child. Some of the risk factors are: depression, anxiety, Mom rage, Intrusive thoughts, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-partum psychosis, and bi-polar disorder. Lin provided in-depth information on each of these factors. She also emphasized the impact if these factors go untreated. Statistics show the cost of an untreated mother and child could be as high as $150,000 whereas if treated this cost can be reduced to $5,000.

Screening of the mothers is crucial to discover these situations. Ideally, the screening process would start as early as during the first mother’s check-up. Unfortunately, this screening process is not mandated and is therefore lacking in our health system. Mothers are also concerned due to the perceived social stigma of mental health, and if diagnosed, fear they may lose their child to social services, etc.

Research and data into this area can identify situations of marital breakdown or violence. In addition, to date there has not been very much done, or resources contributed, to supporting male partners.

How can we help? Talk about this, be aware of situations, participate in mental health walks and advocate for a policy change.

4.Reports and Announcements:

The District 5550 Virtual Conference and Watch Party on May 9^th and 10^th was successful with members from both Regina and Eastview clubs attending. Next year’s conference will be in-person, in Neepawa, Manitoba on May 8^th and 9^th, 2026.
N.B. - At the District Conference we were advised our District is collectively 18 members short of the minimum required to be a District. If we fail to increase our membership we will be forced to amalgamate with another District - likely in the USA. We MUST recruit and retain members., We need projects to entice and motivate existing and new members.
Work project. Soul’s Harbour service opportunity. Serving meals 4:00 to 6:00 pm. June 19^th Requires 8 to 10 volunteers. Location: 1632 Angus Street. Future dates - July 17, Aug. 21, Sept. 18
Rotary International Conference will be in Calgary June 21st to 25^th.

June 16^th - Regina and Eastview Clubs are hosting a group of cyclists riding across Canada to commemorate the 45^th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. Darrel Fox, Terry’s younger brother, is with them. Dinner is on June 16th, at 5:30 PM at the Salvation Army, 2240 13^th Ave., Regina. Roast beef dinner catered by Charolette’s in Moose Jaw. July 30^th - Annual pancake breakfast at the start of the Regina Exhibition. A long-time event led by the Industrial Parks Club. Our members on the new planning committee are Monica Totten and Carole Bryant. This is something Rotary needs to keep going. Mark your calendars so you can help out. Watch for details.

5.Other Newsworthy Items:

Gilda advised she has recently lost her brother - a long time Rotarian in Edmonton - and made a contribution to the club in his memory.

July 4^th Golf: Eastview Club annual golf tournament July 4^th, 2025. A great fund raiser. All golfers welcome. Can you put a foursome together?

50/50: Art Wakabayashi ran today’s draw. The pot was $142.50. No winner.
