A well-respected, 31-year member of Rotary Jack was an active participant in numerous Rotary projects and activities such as Bingo Supervisor, Annual Dinner Committee (responsible for the Silent Auction), member of the Fund Allocation Committee, Director 1995-97, Carol Festival, Salvation Army Kettle Drive and Christmas ham sales.
Jack was born in Heward, Sask. and raised on the family farm. He completed high school in Stoughton and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1953 with a Civil Engineering degree.
Jack joined the Saskatchewan Department of Highways and Transportation in 1953 as a resident engineer in charge of construction projects. Over the years he was promoted to positions of increasing importance and in 1981 became Deputy Minister, responsible for administration of the department and management of the highways system in July 1, 1992.
His leadership and foresight had a significant influence on the development of the highway system in Saskatchewan.
For his distinguished service Jack was awarded the Lieutenant Governor’s medal in 1987 by the Regina Chapter of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada. He served as President of the Roads and Transportation Association of Canada from1985-86. During this time, he chaired a committee of Deputy Ministers which established a major initiative to improve truck safety and harmonize vehicle weights across Canada.
In 1993 he received an award from the Saskatchewan Trucking Association and the Truck Transportation Industry for his contribution to that industry and 1995 was appointed to the Saskatchewan Transportation Hall of Fame.
Jack has served on the board of the Catholic Family Services of Regina, Finance Committee; the Regina Early Learning Centre; President, Wheat City Seniors Curling Club; volunteer at John Paul II Catholic Centre and the Marian Centre.
Jack married Louise April 22nd, 1957. They have four children, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
His interests are gardening, reading, music, the Riders, travel, and curling. Jack was a very enthusiastic and skillful curler competing in many bonspiels. Jack and Louise spent their summers on Louise’s home farm yard near Lanigan. A quiet space where Jack enjoyed driving his lawn mower cutting five acres of lawn.
