Philanthropy's role in making solar an accessible climate solution
How philanthropic partnerships can bring solar power to nonprofits, allowing the nonprofits to participate in the solar energy revolution while saving money that's reinvested back into communities, reducing CO2 emissions, lessening climate injustices, providing clean energy education, supporting the regional economy and providing green jobs.
Since 2007, Tara Hammond has been a prominent local climate advocate, beginning with her role as Sustainability Commissioner at San Diego State University where she contributed to campus climate programs that still exist today. She later worked in community development for the region's top solar company, regularly defending rooftop solar against SDG&E’s attacks, led educational clean energy campaigns and established partnerships to make solar more accessible. As founder and executive director of Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation, Tara drives tangible climate solutions for a just and livable future, prioritizing communities of concern. With 18 years dedicated to local climate boards, committees and coalitions, and as a key media resource, her impact is significant in San Diego and beyond.
