Climate Health Now

Climate Health Now uses community organizing to build the base of climate-engaged health, allied health, and healthcare administrator professionals across California to leverage our trusted health voices in support of the climate justice movement in order to protect health and achieve health equity. Climate Health Now was founded in the Fall of 2019.
Doctors James and Kaufman will share the background of Climate Health Now (CHN) and describe the actions that CHN is taking to help doctors take meaningful action to address the negative effects of climate change.

Christine James, MD, MSc, is a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology at UC San Diego. Her interest in climate change began in fellowship at the University of Cincinnati/Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, where she obtained a master's degree in clinical and translational research in the department of environmental health. Her research focused on the intersection between climate change and allergic-immunologic disease, and she has since expanded her work to advocacy through op-eds, webinars, and policy efforts. She is a trained Climate Reality leader and has earned a Climate Change and Health Certificate from the Yale School of Public Health. She is also on the Public Health Advisory Council of Climate Action Campaign and is currently a Public Voices Fellow with The OpEd Project and the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication. You can follow her on Twitter @ChristineRJames.

Sally Kaufman, MD is an Internal Medicine and Pediatrics physician with Kaiser San Diego and Scripps Coastal Medical Group. She is originally from Ohio where she did her medical training at The Ohio State College of Medicine and completed her medical residency at UCSD in 2018. She is passionate about raising awareness about the adverse health effects from climate change. She serves as Co-Chair of San Diego’s American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Climate Change and Health Committee and on the Public Health Advisory Committee for Climate Action Campaign.
