In October, Patti Diaz, H2O Trash Patrol’s co-founder, gave our club a compelling presentation on her organization’s efforts to prevent and cleanup pollution in our coastal environment. We were inspired to join Patti and her husband Lorenzo (H2O Trash Patrol’s other co-founder) in a cleanup at Agua Hedionda Lagoon in Carlsbad.
Along with other volunteers, Patti, and Lorenzo we picked up over 400 pounds of trash from the beaches bordering the lagoon as well as in the lagoon’s water via standup paddleboards. This was a great opportunity for the Eco Rotarians to explore the lagoon, learn to standup paddleboard, meet new people, and most importantly, help keep our environment healthy. To learn more about Patti and Lorenzo’s organization that is dedicated to “marine conservation and water stewardship through marine removal and education” visit www.h2otrashpatrol.com.

Corey Vonder Reith and ECO Rotary's newest member Stack Baker grabed their paddle boards and headed out into the lagoon.

Corey Vonder Reith returns to shore after collecting trash on the lagoon shore.

Stacy returns to shore with her 5 gallon bucket brimming with trash and debris.

ECO Rotary is dedicating to learning about our environment and then making a meaningful contribution to make a positive impact.  Much of the trash and debris in the lagoon comes from storm water runoff.
