Our First Global Grant - Safe Water in Ecuador
Amélie Catheline, Ph.D.

Safe and Reliable Water in Southern Ecuador

The Solana Beach Eco Rotary Club is sponsoring its first Global Grant with The Rotary Foundation. This grant has been possible thanks to the support of seven other Rotary Clubs in San Diego as well as the San Diego District and the host District in Ecuador.

This grant supports 5 communities in Southern Ecuador to access safe and reliable drinking water. Over 1000 people live in these rural communities and rely on locally run water systems to meet their basic needs. By repairing water systems, protecting and restoring water sources, and providing training on water management, conservation, sanitation, and hygiene, these communities will be able to meet their basic water needs, insure their water is disease free, and develop sustainable water systems.

Amélie Catheline and Richard Stevens, both Rotarians of our club have initiated this project with the Rotary Club of Loja Los Zarzas in Ecuador. Amélie will describe this $69,000 project and present the progress of the project implementation since its approval in June 2022.
