San Diego Bird Alliance

For over 75 years, the SD Bird Alliance (formerly SD Audubon) has worked to protect local wildlife and habitats. San Diego, often called the ‘birdiest county’ in the US, supports over 500 bird species due to its diverse environments—ranging from tidal flats and coastal lagoons to mountain forests and deserts—and serves as a major stop on the Pacific Flyway. 

SD Bird Alliance offers year-round events, with February featuring Love Your Wetlands Day, a Valentine's Day birdwatching boat trip, and the impressive San Diego Bird Festival, which includes expert lectures and over 150 activities. 

A key initiative of the Bird Alliance is ReWild Mission Bay (involving over 95 coalition partners) to restore wetlands, boost climate resilience, and increase biodiversity through action, advocacy and education. The organization also collaborates with Friends of Rose Creek for educational programs and habitat restoration. Our speaker, Andrew Meyer, is director of conservation for the SD Bird Alliance and manages the ReWild Mission Bay Coalition. Andrew will talk about the history of SD Bird Alliance, current challenges, events and programs and the future of this exceptional organization.
