The Nuclear Threat at SONGS: Problems and Solution

Dr Andersen will discuss:

  • The potential dangers of decommissioning and of nuclear waste at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS).
  • The problem of transporting nuclear waste to central repositories.
  • What we can do now to solve the problem of nuclear waste at SONGS.

Dr. Peter Andersen is a retired Professor Emeritus at SDSU. He has been teaching at San Diego State University since 1981 and earned Professor Emeritus status in 2010. He authored several books and was president of the Western Communication Association and Editor of the Western Journal of Communication. He is a co-investigator on a number of major grants from the National Cancer Institute and the Center for Disease Control. Dr Andersen was also chair of the San Diego Chapter of Sierra Club 2018-2019. He has spoken eloquently and written extensively about nuclear waste at San Onofre. He sits on Congressman Levin's Nuclear Waste Task Force. 

The Sam Lawrence Foundation connects local and international environmental groups to address the pressing issues of the nation. They encourage collaboration and innovation in advocating for safer storage of nuclear waste, teaching about environmental hazards and promoting environmental justice.
