Living Laboratories: Exploring the UC San Diego Natural Reserve System

Kellie Uyeda is the Executive Director of the UC San Diego Natural Reserve System, where she works at the intersection of research, education, and conservation. She has a PhD in Geography from SDSU/UCSB. 

Beyond the bustling lecture halls and high-tech labs of UC San Diego lies a hidden network of pristine California landscapes. The UC San Diego Natural Reserve System encompasses hundreds of acres of protected land dedicated to supporting teaching, research, and stewardship. It is part of the larger UC Nature network of 42 field stations and natural reserves across California. 
 
In this presentation, we will go on a virtual tour of these remarkable sites, covering:
The Mission: How the Natural Reserves supports world-class research and hands-on environmental education.
Local Impact: The role these reserves play in protecting endangered species and maintaining local ecosystem health.
Climate Resilience: How these "living labs" are helping scientists understand and adapt to California’s changing climate.
