Rotary District 5340’s Model United Nations Program trains high school students to be effective negotiators and diplomats by debating current-day international issues that are presently being addressed by the United Nations. The Model United Nations Conference simulates a United Nations General Assembly Conference and is held at the University of San Diego, Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice. Our club has a strong team who will be representing Cuba this year. The Resolutions that will be discussed are
- Increase funding to stop Drug Trafficking
- Funding for the Protection of Journalists
All are welcome to come observe but seating is limited.
It's a 2-day event:
- Saturday March 21, 8am - 4pm
- Sunday March 22, 8am - 1pm
Most interesting are the student speeches given on Saturday morning and the guest speakers at opening, noon and closing both days. Also, on Sunday the Caucus groups present their suggestions/corrections to the operative clauses and the whole assembly votes, which is fun to see who is successful for their country’s interest.
Our team will present their speech during the club meeting on March 17; a nice way to rehearse.
For more information please contact Lynn and RSVP to let her know you will attend.
