Batiquitos Lagoon Reserve is a 561 acre lagoon, game sanctuary and bird estuary.  Year round it is home to diverse wildlife and in the winter, it is home to a large variety of migrating birds.  California's coastal wetlands have been disappearing along with the wildlife that inhabits these areas. While Batiquitos Lagoon was originally open to the ocean, construction of public transportation corridors and other development resulted in sediment closing the lagoon resulting in deterioration of wild habitat. Thanks to a massive enhancement project conducted in the mid-1990s, it is open to the ocean again and thriving.  However, development and climate change continue to pose new threats. The Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation's mission is to preserve, protect and enhance these beautiful wetlands.

We will have a tour and be able to see the work the foundation is doing to preserve this area.
