This is the Greater Salem NH Rotary Club’s 15th  year delivering dictionaries to the schools in its service area of Salem, Windham, Pelham and Hampstead.

We have given over fifteen thousand dictionaries during this time anywhere from 1200 to 800 dictionaries on any given year.  What started out as a literacy theme for Rotary International has evolved in a yearly project.  Each year third grade students in our area receive a scholastic dictionary.  This dictionary has more than just new words for elementary school students.  It has information about each president of the USA.  It has information on each US state such as the census and fun facts such as state birds and trees.  There is the periodic table of elements as well as information on each of the planets in the solar system.  The one thing that always gets the kids excited is the longest word in the world.  This is a great event that we do each year and both the members of our club as well as the third graders enjoy it every year.

The 2017  Salem NH Parks and Rec Fishing Derby at Hedgehog Park was a success! We had 106 kids registered that caught fish from 3 3/8" to 17.5". We even met 6 adults who had fished at this event when they were kids! George Finn (founder of the event over 50 years ago) was also enjoying himself with his great grandchildren! The fishing derby is one of many local projects our club looks forward to each year.  As local Rotarians, we focus on impacting our community in numerous ways and also make a positive impact on global humanitarian efforts.
