Wednesday’s Program Speaker - Sarabeth Kalajian & Sue Seiter, "Successes of our SRQ county library system"
We take public libraries for granted - we shouldn't.  Sarabeth is Director of SRQ County libraries and Historical Resources.  Sue is Executive Director of the Library Foundation.

Food Drive - We've jumped to 3,058 pounds well over 50% of our goal.  Keep the Food-O-Meter moving; bring a food donation for All Faiths to Wednesday's meeting.  (Its OK, really - bring something.)
Board Elections - At the March 21st meeting President Elect Pete Kiziu gave 30 day's notice there will be Board Member elections at the April 25th meeting for the 2018-2019 Kiwanis year.  Candidates for Officer and Director positions should make themselves known to Peter or President Clark Lauren as soon as possible.

Pine View K-Kids Club Member Recognized as "Youth Volunteer of the Year"
I opened my email Sunday afternoon to find an important message from Brie Shannon - Pine View School's Key Club Faculty Advisor.  Brie shared a Sarasota County School District Facebook Post.   She congratulated all the volunteers and community partners recognized by Sarasota County Schools last week, including District students for their work throughout the community and especially Kendall Frechette, one of Pine View's K-Kids who was named the Sarasota County Division Youth Volunteer of the Year for her Kendall's Closet project.
After Hurricane Irma, Kendall became aware that there were a large number of children who had lost almost every thing.  Stepping up, she began the clothing drive that became "Kendall's Closet".  In response to her requests, donations quickly filled her family's garage.  Kendall enrolled her K-Kids Club and other students to help sort and pull together children's outfits, package them for orderly presentation, and transport to children where needed.  "Where needed" included Puerto Rico as well as locations in the Naples Florida area.
I spoke with Pine View's K-Kids Faculty Advisor "Mini" Abeysekera Friday evening.  She mentioned that Kendall made it a point to sort the donations, then repackage them as "outfits" with labeled size and gender because she did not want children receiving clothing donations in black trash bags.  Much better Kendall thought, to receive a "present" of a new outfit.  Mini also mentioned that Kendall Frechette is an inspiration to every member of the Kiwanis Family.  We couldn't agree more.
Here's a link to Sarasota County's Volunteer & Partnership Awards Ceremony.  Kendall's recognition is toward the end of the clip:
