Mote Marine
Nov 29, 2017
Dwight David, of the Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium Speakers Bureau, will provide the membership with an overview of this world-renown facility and the many fascinating projects they are undertaking to preserve and understand our environment. Mote Marine is an independent marine research institution comprised of world-class marine scientists committed to the belief that the conservation and sustainable use of our oceans begins with research and education. Originally just a single building in a small Florida town, their efforts have expanded dramatically to include: a 10.5-acre Base Campus, Aquarium, and Aquaculture Campus in Sarasota; a Field Station and Public Exhibit in Key West; a Field Station in Summerland Key; and an outreach Office in Boca Grande. The research conducted at Mote includes studies of human cancer using marine models, the effects of man-made and natural toxins on humans and on the environment, the health of wild fisheries, developing sustainable and successful fish restocking techniques and food production technologies and the development of ocean technology to better understand the health of the environment. The aquarium also focuses on understanding the population dynamics of manatees, dolphins, sea turtles, sharks and coral reefs to aid conservation and restoration efforts related to these species and ecosystems. |

The art of Communicating face to face
Dec 13, 2017
In a society that is controlled by smart phones and instant gratification, we have lost sight of the importance of face to face communication. Whether it is communication with your partner, family, or friends, we feel more comfortable expressing our thoughts behind a keyboard and screen instead of verbalizing our ideas in person. Rehab Gaming USA was developed to address this issue. Our card games are designed to help “game players” focus on communicating with each other in a non-intimidating way by asking fun, serious, and sometimes silly questions. Thus ‘rehabbing’ the art of conversation and getting back to basics. Conversational games for any occasion and for all family members!

Jan 26, 2018 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
December is behind us. Thank God It's January! We need a Holiday after-party to come down from the Holiday Season and toughen up for the "Season" Season. A private place to talks and swap stories with supportive friends BUT without the noise and chatter of "customers," bartenders and staff. A place with the light refreshments and adult beverages you want BUT without the responsibility of having to clean up. Well this is it. Our "TGIJ Party" this year is a Happy Hour social at the Griffin residence hosted by Doug & Paula. Come early, come late - Kiwanians are always happy to see you. Guests are always welcome and in fact encouraged. It is a BYOB event but If you wish, bring something to share - or not. Either way it's OK. Please RSVP here or send Doug an email (DougSRQ@gmail.com) if you plan to bring something to share so we can plan for everyone's enjoyment and send you direction to our home.

A lot has and is happening in the Sarasota area Real Estate market. MANY new developments in Lakewood and Palmer Ranches commanding premium prices. Many "pocket developments" on small patches here-and-there. Prices for existing homes creeping upward and condo prices beginning to increase as well. Throw in tax law changes and rising interest rates and it is for sure what you knew a year ago is no longer true. Or is it? Tracy Seider will bring members and guests up to date Wednesday March 14th. Whatever is happening YOU need to know. March 14th's meeting is your opportunity. .Don't miss it. |
