There were 29 members in attendance today. Many special occasions and happy dollars were acknowledged. Vern reported a can deposit of $85.70 for the last 6 days. The Aktion Club picnic was held last Thursday with a good crowd attending. The Bell Tower Festival food stand and sign-up sheet was discussed. President Palmer reminded members that there is a board meeting on Friday morning at 7am.
Jack Fredrickson had the program today. He invited Matt Ott from MidAmerica Energy to speak about the Beaver Creek Windpark. MidAmerica is Iowa's largest energy company with 752,000 electric customers. About 31% of their energy comes from wind, which powers approximately 2 million homes. There will be 85 turbines in the Beaver Creek project generating 170 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 68,000 homes. This is a $3.6 billion dollar investment by MidAmerica, the largest economic development initiative in Iowa's history. The project is expected to be operational by November 2017. Thanks to Matt and Jack for a great program!  Click here to see the video of a wind turbine being installed.
