There were 27 members in attendance and five guests. President Palmer reminded members that there is a board meeting on Friday at 7:00am. Dan reported a can drop deposit of $75.45. Hollie reported that they had an Aktion Club meeting last Monday and that they are getting organized for 2017 activities. Linda asked for driving volunteers that could provide a truck with hitch to travel to the food pantry in Des Moines occasionally to pickup items for ARC. The trailer is provided by ARC. Please share this need in the community and contact Linda if you can assist.

Everett Beebe had the program today. He invited his son, Brett to speak to us about the Trans Iowa Bike Race that he has participated in several times.

What is the Trans Iowa Race? It is a big loop that approximates what it would take to cross the State of Iowa at any given point West to East. The course changes every year. There are time limits to checkpoints, which, if not met, mean you are out of the event. The ride is self-supported, guided by cue sheets, and the route is secret until the day of the event. It is approximately 95% gravel road, 5% pavement.  The race must be completed in 32 hrs.  Approximately 125 riders start the race and only 20 or so finish. It is the hardest bike race you've never heard of!  Thanks to Everett and Brett for the very interesting program! Extra: Race overview video
