OFFICIAL MINUTES
The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Junkyard Cafe on December 9, 2022. President Mike Palmer called the meeting to order at 7:00 AM. Board members in attendance were Bill Monroe, Bill Raney, Don Van Gilder, Tim Buenz, Bill Steussy, Hollie Roberts, Chad Butterfield, Chad Stevens, Sherry Palmer, Larry Teeples. Board members Denny Hammen, Colton Cunningham, Karen Shannon, and Jim Tuesch were absent. Vern Foje and Dan Benitz were also present.
OFFICERS’ REPORTS

SECRETARY
A motion was made by Butterfield and seconded by Monroe to approve the board minutes as written for the November board meeting. Motion carried.

TREASURER
Raney shared the treasurer’s report. S. Palmer made a motion to approve the reports as presented. Steussy seconded the motion. Motion carried.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

OLD BUSINESS
Aktion Club Roberts reported for the club. Routine/regular meetings have been established. They will be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army.

Membership Packet/Brochure Sherry Palmer finished up six membership packets, compiled by Buenz. These will be given to prospective members, and will be kept in the podium.

Meeting Location There was extensive discussion about the menu and arrangements for menu changes. There will be a follow up with the owner about changes suggested by the members.

Kiwanis Breakfast Outdoor Signs Buenz got a quote from Jen Badger for double sided signs: $12 each. A motion was made by Steussy to purchase 25 signs. Monroe seconded the motion. Motion carried.

2023 Chicken Dinner Location Roberts determined that it would be best to continue the event at the high school.
 
Updates: Salvation Army - total raised to date is $1,497.38

NEW BUSINESS

Donation Request - Steussy requested that Kiwanis participate in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Foundation. The extent of the partnership will be discussed during next year’s budget planning meeting. For this year, Buenz made a motion to donate $630, which would sponsor 25 Greene County children. Motion seconded by Monroe. Motion carried.

Cash Christmas gift for Junkyard Staff: A container will be passed around at the next weekly meetings prior to Christmas.

Upcoming Events:
Shop with a Cop will take place at the new LEC on December 10. 12:00-1:00 p.m. Kiwanis members are asked to help the youth wrap the gifts they purchased.
Plan to arrive at 11:30.
Adopt a Family will take place at the fairgrounds on Saturday, December 17. Two Kiwanis members will help direct traffic at the front gate.

Bike Rodeo Buenz reported a committee will be set up after the holidays.

Adjourn – The meeting was adjourned by President Palmer at 7:50 AM with a motion made by Butterfield and second by Stevens. Motion carried.
