OFFICIAL MINUTES
 
The Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson, Iowa met in regular session at the Uptown Café on November 4, 2016.  President Mike Palmer called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m. Board members present were Jack Frederickson, Deb Geisler, Tom Heater, Vicky Lautner, Sherry Palmer, Bob Schwarzkopf, Loren Turner and Toni Wetrich. Dan Benitz, Denny Hammen, Bob Smith, Don Van Gilder and Marla Siruta were absent. Guests present were Hollie Roberts and Vern Foje.  
 
OFFICERS’ REPORTS
    SECRETARY
          A motion was made by Vicky Lautner, seconded by Tom Heater to approve the October   minutes as printed.  All approved, none opposed.                            
 
    TREASURER
           A motion was made by Jack Fredrickson and seconded by Loren Turner to approve the club’s financial records for the month of October as presented by Schwarzkopf.
All approved, none opposed.
 
COMMITTEE REPORTS
                         
   MEMBERSHIP
         October 1, 2016 the club had 46 members.  The current membership stands at 48.
Angie Healy, Dick Pound and Jean Walker are currently on leave of absence.
A motion was made by Tom Heater, second by Toni Wetrich to accept Susan Sanders resignation with regret.  Motion carried.
 
     AUDIT COMMITTEE
          Sherry Palmer reported she and Pat Miller have reviewed the financials of the club.  Bill Raney is currently reviewing them.
 
OLD BUSINESS        
 
       SILENT AUCTION UPDATE
            The total amount earned was $ 5,043.  There was discussion on how to improve the final accounting after the closing of the bids.  There were only two items that did not receive bids.
 
       PANCAKE BREAKFAST UPDATE
            $3,395.26 was earned.  A motion was made by Vicky Lautner, seconded by Deb Geisler to pay the Aktion Club $200 for their help at the breakfast.  Motion carried.
 
NEW BUSINESS
 
   SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGING
         The committee met at the Open Bible Church on Wed, Nov 2.  The schedule for the members to ring is at Fareway on Nov. 9, 5 – 8 p.m. and Nov. 10, 10 a.m. – 5p.m.
 
   ARC PANTRY DONATIONS
         The collection will take place during two meetings – Nov. 9 and Nov. 16.
 
    AKTION CLUB MITTEN TREE
          Linda Spearman told Foje the tree will be placed in the South entry of the court house the day before Thanksgiving.  Members can deliver donated items to the assessor’s office prior to Thanksgiving.
 
    GRILL STORAGE
         The grill can be stored in the building owned by Aaron Schroeder.  However, the grill cannot be placed in the building until new garage doors have been installed.
 
     BRUSHY CREEK HONOR FLIGHT
          Linda Hocke asked Hollie Roberts if the club and its members would consider donating to help pay for ten (10) Vietnam veterans on the next flight of May 6, 2017.  It cost $600 per person.  A motion was made by Deb Geisler, second by Loren Turner, MC to pass the hat during a regular meeting.  The club would pay the difference between the collected amount and $600.
 
     EARLY LEARNING CENTER
          Sherry Palmer reported the organization has purchased items with the club’s donation.  They are wondering if the club wants a photo-op. This will be set up later by President Palmer.
 
The meeting adjourned at 7:40 a.m.
