G E A R Next meeting: Monday April 29, 2019 at 12:15 Guest Speaker: Dr. Neil Craton Hal Brownlee, our President, opened the meeting with the singing of O’Canada and Rotary Grace We were pleased to welcome Ed Bates, Joyce Allen and Joy Hood Announcement - Dr. Neil Craton will be our speaker on
- April 29th - Dr. Neil Craton, Doctor for Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He also volunteers at Siloam Mission. He will talk about the Wisdom from the Homeless. This is the title of a book that he has written, with proceeds going to Siloam Mission. We will have some of these books for sale for $20.00. Dr. Craton will be available to sign these books on April 29th.
- Half Marathon and 5KM Fun Run
Online registration for our Half Marathon and 5KM run is now open. - It was decided that for this year our donation from our run will be split between Bruce Oak Foundation (80%) and Knowles Centre (20%).
- Dorothy Taylor and Barry Hartley has agreed to be on the Half Marathon & 5KM run planning committee.
- We are still looking for a major sponsor for 2019
- Our District Conference will be held in Winnipeg this year at Cana Inns Polo Park on May 3rd to 5th, can register on line. If you went to everything the cost would be $250.00 but you can pick and choose, costs would reflect the number of events that you attend. The District Learning Assembly has been integrated into the District Conference and will be held on Thursday May 2, 2019 at Canad Inns – Polo Park from 1 pm to 4 pm. There is no charge for registration for those registered for the District Conference but you must register for the Assembly as well. For those just attending the Assemble there will be a small charge.
- No meeting on April 22, 2019 because of Easter Monday.
- Next Marathon meeting will be on April 29th at 11 am.
Sergeant-at-Arms: Happy Bucks: Ted, Don, Dorothy, Ed, Roger, Don and Ron. The weekly accumulator draw, today, was $65.00. Nancy Finlayson drew the King of Spades. Guest Speaker: Our guest speaker, Nancy Finlayson, was introduced by Don Fletcher. Nancy is a retired United Church Minister, and is very involved in the community and sets on several boards. She spoke about L’Archie, They deal with the mentally and physically challenged people. L’Archie is now located in 146 countries. In Winnipeg they have 6 houses and 2 independent living units. They have 28 people in their care and 20 associates who look after them. They idea is that they believe that most mentally and physically challenged people do better in a home environment then in an institution. Hal Brownlee thanked Nancy for coming to talk to us. Up Coming Events: On Monday April 29th Dr. Neil Craton, doctor for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and a volunteer at Siloam Mission will be our guest speaker. Lunch for April 29th will cost $25.00. Everyone is encouraged to bring a guest. Or you can order a table, each table will seat eight people. We have sold four tables. Our sponsorship luncheon will be held on Monday May 13, 2019 No Meeting on April 22, 2019 – Easter Monday.
