ROTARY CLUB OF FORT GARRY

Barry Hartley, our President, presided over today’s meeting. Thanks to all who attended.

 

Our March 21, 2022 will be held at Holiday Inn at 12:15 PM. All current COVID mandates are now over. It is now up to each individual to determine if they want to continue to wear a mask.

 

Talks continue weekly about our plan for a membership drive in May and what we need to do to make this drive successful. Several members are working on different aspect of our membership drive with the target of the end of April to get everything completed.

 

Our club will be 60 years old on May 14, 2022. Initial discussions were held about planning a 60^th anniversary around the middle of June. This will also coincide with Ted’s 60 anniversary as a member of our club.

 

On March 28^th our speaker will be Danie Botha. Danie Botha is an author, speaker, and physician. He was born in Zambia and completed his school education and medical training in South Africa. In 1998 he emigrated to Canada with his young family. Having lived and worked in four countries on two continents, he has learned that man can overcome innumerable obstacles, that exercise remains the best medicine, that writing can restore, and that humor heals. He is the author of four novels and a poetry collection.

 

MUNA – MUNA will be virtual again this year, it will be held on April 28^th and 29^th. Participation in MUNA is open to students in Grades 9 – 12. Delegations each comprise two students accompanied by a counsellor. Registration is only $25 per delegation. Applications are being accepted online any time up to April 1, 2022.

 

We received a request from Canadian Diabetes Association for a donation towards their summer camp. No action was taken at this time.

 

East AM Rotary’s Comedy Night is April 1, 2022 at the Met. The plan is to sell both live and virtual tickets. Any tickets sold our club would receive half of the price of the ticket. Email was sent to all members on March 2^nd on how to purchase tickets etc.

 

Rotary International President, Jennifer Jones, will be visiting Winnipeg in early July. A Committee is being put together by all of the Winnipeg Rotary clubs to determine what we will do during Jennifer’s visit. Don Fletcher will be attending a meeting on February 14^th. He will provide us with am update after this meeting.

 

Our sister club in Detroit Lakes will be celebrating their 100^th anniversary this year. We will be investigating to see if our Winnipeg clubs can do something with the Detroit lakes club during the spring/summer. Maybe a meeting at the International Peace Gardens
