We had the second presentation today for our $5,000 grant. Barb Pearce from South Point Community Gardens.

 

 

On Friday November 11. 2022 we will be having a Remembrance Day service, followed by a lunch at Rotary Villa. Everyone is asked to be at Rotary Villa, 528 Hudson Street by 10:00 A.M. - 10:30 A.M. Our lunch will be catered by Rotary Villa this year. Lunch will cost $20.00.

 

Because of our Remembrance Day service on Friday November 11th, we will not have a meeting on Monday November 14, 2022. Next Rotary meeting will be Monday November 21, 2022.

 

We will be inviting our final people/group that we have selected for our $5,000 community grant on Monday November 7,2022

The weekly accumulator was held and Barry Hartley drew the Queen of Clubs. Total for the draw was $20.00.

 

Speaker: Barb Pearce did her presentation for our $5,000 community great. Barb looks after South Pointe Community Gardens, which is designated as a nonprofit. They were granted the use of the land for about eight years from Qualico. Their garden consists of 52 plots. One area is quite low and creates a water problem whenever it rains so they need to raise that portion of the garden. Also, they have a large number of seniors who have difficulty working their plots at ground level. So they want to make 14 raised plots to make it easier for these people to work in their gardens. The charge for the people using the gardens is kept as low as possible, they collect enough to pay for the water that they have to get delivered to the Garden.

 

One of the issues brought up in the questions was the fact that the life of the garden was around eight years.

 

 

 

On Friday November 11, 2022 we will be having a Remembrance Day service followed by a lunch at Rotary Villa. Everyone is asked to be there by 10:30 - 10:30 AM. Lunch will cost $20.00.
