We were pleased to welcome

 

Our president, Hal Brownlee, will be stepping down as president of our club around the end of May. Hal is moving from the city to help his Dad with farming. We will need to fill this position as soon as possible. If you would like to volunteer for president or know someone who would like to volunteer, please let Martin Coward know and he will pass your name on to the board.

 

Our 2021 Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2021. St. Vital Park has been booked. Because of COVID, if we haven’t received approval for our Half Marathon for 2021 by August 1^st, the 2021 Half Marathon will be Cancelled.

 

Rotary Adventures in Citizenship will resume in 2021 but it will be virtual. Rotary Adventures in Citizenship will take place May 1 – 5. Our club has one student registered for Rotary Adventures in Citizenship.

 

Speaker Series – will continue on May 3rd when Bill Lightly will do his craft talk.

 

East AM Rotary Club will be having a virtual comedy night on April 29, 2021. Cost $20.00 per ticket, with 50% of the value of the ticket will staying with our club if we sold the ticket. Information on how to purchase has been forwarded to all members.

 

We will be celebrating OUR Foundation with a fast pace show, consisting of excellent presentations by Rotary Leaders, including Micheal McGovern, chair of Polio Plus. Cost will be $110.00 US. An email has been sent with the details.

Speaker: Russ Hood, was introduced by Hal Brownlee. Russ immigrated to Canada from Australia with his wife, Joy, and son David in 1958. After moving to Canada their family increased by three daughters and one son. Russ was a Civil Engineer when he came to Canada. He joined an engineering company and was transferred to Winnipeg. While working Russ did work mostly in Manitoba and some work in Saskatchewan and Ontario. Russ figures that over the years he has been involved in over 1000 projects in Winnipeg alone. Russ moved up through his company and on retirement was one of the major share holders in the company. When Russ joined the company they had 75 employees, when Russ retired they employed 1,500 people. Russ was also very, active in Community affairs was on numerous board and was president or chaired many professional groups. He was one of the people who help create in Manitoba the CET designation. Russ is a long time member of our club who has been involved with numerous activities that we have done throughout the years such as Auction, Dinner, BBQ, Half Marathon etc. The meeting was well attended and everyone liked the craft talk that Russ gave.

District Conference is scheduled for Melford May 14-15 2021.The theme for this years conference is The Family of Rotary. This conference has been moved to an online conference. More information will be passed on as soon as we receive them

 

Rotary International Convention will be virtual this year and will be held June 12^th to 16^th. More Information will be forthcoming as they become available.
