G E A R Next meeting: Monday August 20, 2018 at 12:15 Guest Speaker: TBA Our president, Hal Brownlee, opened the meeting with the signing of O’Canada and Rotary Grace. We were pleased to welcome Ed Batez and Don Johnanson. Announcements - This year our Half Marathon and 5 KM run will be on Sunday September 16, 2018. The donation from Calm Air, Two tickets to Churchill, will be given to the 1st finishers for men and women in the Half Marathon. Second place finishers for both Male and Female will received two tickets anywhere Calm Air flies.
- Membership Invoices were sent to all members on June 12, 2018. Several Members still haven’t paid their membership for 2018 -2019 membership fees are now due. This year, we have another payment option, you can pay your Membership Dues by E-transfer by sending your E-Transfer to martinjcoward@gmail.com.
- Paul Harris invoices were sent to members on July 9, 2018. Paul Harris invoices are now due.
- We have another Major Sponsor thanks to the efforts of Ted Foreman. Midtown Ford has agreed to sponsor the Half Marathon this year for $25,000. Ten thousand to Knowles Centre and fifteen thousand to the Bruce Oake Foundation.
- Nazir was at our meeting today. He had three ideas that was agreed would be presented to the board at our next meeting. These Ideas were: 1. As a prelude to our Rotary meeting we make a general statement that says “we acknowledge that we meet and work in Treaty 1 land, the traditional land of the Anishinaabe, Cree and Dakota Peoples and the homeland of the Metis Nation. We are grateful for their stewardship of this land and their hospitality which allows us to live, work and serve” 2. Formal Recognition of outstanding member Rotarians with a plaque or a certificate. This could be done by the outgoing president. 3. Capital Project (permanent toilets downtown) Nazir has offered to lead this project.
