ROTARY CLUB OF FORT GARRY

 

 

We were pleased to welcome Dorothy, Sadie and several other friends of the club,

Ron Miller, our co-president took the meeting today. Thanks to all who attended

 

Invoices for 2022 – 2023 Membership have been sent out to all members, total membership fee is $300.00. However, this year we have decided that the fee can be paid in two payments, $150.00 can be paid by June 1^st and $150.00 on December 1st. Of course, if members would like to pay the full mount on June 1^st they can do so.

 

Payment can be made by E-Transfer by sending the E-Transfer to martinjcoward@gmail.com. or by mailing the cheque to the address on the invoice or in person at one of our weekly meetings.

 

Our club will be 60 years old on May 14, 2022. Initial discussions were held about planning a 60^th anniversary and Ted’s 60^th year as a member of our club. Our celebration has been deferred to October 19, 2022. We will also be having a dinner instead lunch. More information will be passed on to members has they become available. In the meantime save the date so you can attend our celebration dinner.

 

Rotary International President, Jennifer Jones, will be visiting Winnipeg on July 6th.

Our help is needed for the BBQ on July 6th. If anyone can help with the following please let Martin Coward know.

 

-Volunteers for security at the BBQ on July 6th from 5 PM to 9 PM. Volunteers have to register so let Martin know as soon as possible.

-A couple of volunteers are needed to represent our club at the luncheon and give a 2 minute or less rendition of our clubs activities.

The weekly accumulator was held and Ed Baetz drew the Ten of Hearts. Total for the draw was $26.00.

 

Speaker: Don Fletcher introduced our speaker, John Orilkow. John mentioned that his family has been involved in politics for a long time. Before he became city counsellor he was a school board trustee. John spoke about some of the challenges that the city has such as Homelessness, drug problems and the lack of money that the city has for some road projects such as the widening of Kenaston. He spoke about the city moving to a four year budget plan from the yearly plan. He spoke briefly about the improvements along Pembina Highway and the new construction that is taking place. He touch briefly on the ongoing problems with the new police headquarters. John feels for the city to do well they need a new source of revenue. What that maybe is not known at this time. The city is restricted somewhat in their ability to raise new sources of revenue because of the restrictions placed on them by the city charter. Steve Gallagher thanked counsellor Orilkow for taking the time to come and talk to us.
