ROTARY CLUB OF FORT GARRY
Next Meeting: Monday November 28, 2022 at 12:15 PM
Guest Speaker:
We were pleased to welcome
Ron Miller, our co- president took the meeting today. Thanks to all who attended
Most of the meeting today was set aside for the presentation by Prairie Strides for our Community Grant.
Attendance was low so we just enjoyed some fellowship time.
We are hoping to finalize our Half Marathon results in the next week or so. A board meeting will be required to finalize.
We have also have had the three groups that we selected for our community grant all make their presentation to us. At the next board meeting a winner will need to be selected.

The weekly accumulator was held and Owola Bella drew the Ten of Spades. Total for the draw was $29.00.
Speaker: Darraugh Sichrwski, from Prairie Strides presented today. Prairie Strides formerly Manitoba Riding for the Disabled Association is a charitable organization. They currently provide two ten week courses, one in the Spring and another in the Fall. It requires a large number of volunteers. They provide horseback riding for children with physical, cognitive and mental challenges. including but not limited to Cerebral Palsy, FASD, Visual and hearing impairment, Autism ETC.
Each participant requires three volunteers, one to lead the horse and one to walk one each side of the horse to ensure that the rider doesn't fall off. The cost for one rider for a ten week course is $2,800 but the families are only charged $300. The difference is raised through donations and fund raising. Prairie Strides is ran by a volunteer Board. They only have one paid employee, all others are volunteers.
If they receive our grant they would use it for Updating promotional material, Recuit and retain volunteers etc. They have a website if you are interested in finding out more about Prairie Strides.
