ROTARY CLUB OF FORT GARRY

Barry Hartley, our President, presided over today’s meeting. Thanks to all who attended.

 

Talks continue weekly about our plan for a membership drive in May and what we need to do to make this drive successful. Several members are working on different aspect of our membership drive with the target of the end of April to get everything completed.

 

Rotary International is arranging for a survey to be done to help determine the Districts that are required. When you receive this survey we ask that you complete it and return it as soon as possible.

 

Last week a short discussion was held as to whether or not we should make a “land statement” before our meetings. No decision was made at that time.

 

Next board meeting will be on Monday April 4, 2022 at 11 AM.

 

Our club will be 60 years old on May 14, 2022. Initial discussions were held about planning a 60^th anniversary June 13th. This will also coincide with Ted’s 60 anniversary as a member of our club.

 

MUNA – MUNA will be virtual again this year, it will be held on April 28^th and 29^th. Participation in MUNA is open to students in Grades 9 – 12. Delegations each comprise two students accompanied by a counsellor. Registration is only $25 per delegation. Applications are being accepted online any time up to April 1, 2022.

 

 

 

Rotary International President, Jennifer Jones, will be visiting Winnipeg in early July. A Committee is being put together by all of the Winnipeg Rotary clubs to determine what we will do during Jennifer’s visit. More updates will be provided as they become available.

The weekly accumulator was held and Monica drew the ten of Spades. Total for the draw was $133.00.

 

Speaker: Our speaker today was Dr. Danie Botha. He was introduced by Shelly..His topic was “When are you enough – Discover your purpose and potential. He basically used his own life as an example. At one point when he was told that he would never have what it takes to become a doctor- Told that he wasn’t enough. So he decided that instead of feeling sorry for himself that he would prove this person wrong. He also said that when he went through a rough patch when both of his parents passed away in 2017, he had flash backs to the time when he was told that he wasn’t enough.

 

He said that we all should be positive about ourselves and to our best to pass on that positive attitude to the people that we love.. He summed it up with one word. W I N

W – Worth – we need to feel that we have worth, at all stages of our life.

I – Important

N – New story – Tell your story, do not believe that you are not enough, believe you are can do it. YOU ARE ENOUGH.

 

His talk was well received by members at the meeting. Barry Hartley thanked Dr. Botha for taking time to come and speak to us.

 

 

Half Marathon will be held on September 18^th this year
