Chair Announcements

• There will be no board meeting this month.
• The District 5550 website has posted a piece on Dave Morris, in which he was named a Person of Action. His work in collecting can tabs and beer cans was specifically noted, and as we know he does so much more.
• RYLA will be proceeding this summer.

The Rotary clubs supporting the Westminster Housing Society continues to maintain the garden next to 189 Spence. They have added tables, chairs and a swingset. Past President Cathy waters on Mondays, and more volunteers are welcome to help to weed and water. (Cathy can’t tell a weed from a flower 🙂)

Glenn reported that our club applied for two district grants, one for $1,500 for the Assiniboine Forest and the other for $1,000 for scholarships. Glenn was happy to report that both were approved.

LeeAnn reported on a successful project of having volunteers in the Forest talking to folks. Some interesting comments, and a few donations, were collected.

Jim reported that he had received a suggestion regarding Lobsterfest around soliciting photos to use in social media.

Jack W. shared an article from Saturday’s Winnipeg Free Press about the Forest. (see below)

President David introduced this evening’s speaker, Patricia Dutchak, who talked about her time working in Oman. Unfortunately the link to her presentation had an expiry date, and by the time your bulletin writer returned to town, it had expired. But I’m told it was interesting.

Happy Bucks

• Lloyd was happy to have attended the RI convention in Calgary, and had a goodie bag with pins that he had collected. He had carried one of our beautiful forest bags everywhere he went, and said that one of the American Rotarians had been very interested in our bag, and took many photos of it to bring back to her club a suggestion for fundraising. Ed Toews was happy that he has almost finished getting rid of a lifetime’s worth of painting equipment. Only a few things left.
• Dave Morris was happy that someone had left a bag of beer cans at the office garage. Thanks to all who continue to save and collect aluminum cans and pull tabs. Keep it up.
• Jack W. was happy that he just came back from a week of holidays at the cabin with his six grandchildren and their parents. Meals were busy, but there was room for everyone and they did a lot of fun things around the cabin.
• Andrea (new member) was happy it was her birthday. (No singing was requested.)

The 50/50 pool remained safe for another week.

Next week we will have two presenters:

1. Rick Rosenthal will talk about his customer paper photo greeting card business.
2. Ankita Soni from the Winnipeg Club will talk about an upcoming Reconciliation Walk.
