Chair announcements

The plans for establishing a Rotaract Club at Red River Polytech are moving forward.

September 30th is Orange Shirt Day. All members are encouraged to wear their orange shirts to the September 29th meeting.

Cathy Skene is District 5550’s new District Governor Nominee.

She will be Charleswood’s sixth District Governor Nominee and the second in four years. This is the most of any club in the district.

Sarge Mike 

Guests: Jerry Oleschuk and Dennis Doerksen, our guest speakers.

Guests from out of the city, out of the province, and out of the country were in attendance. They are in Winnipeg to attend the Zone Summit this week. Lisa, Serge, Jill, 

Kathleen, Darvin, Val, and Jim were with us.

Happy Bucks

Jim was happy that the golf tournament was over, and will be the final one.

Chuck was happy that Jim brought bug repellant to the tournament.

Cathy was proud that she and President David were on the winning team: winners of Most Honourable Team, that is! Hey, there were prizes for that.

Iain was happy to have gone to Petersfield with family, where they were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights.

Ed Thompson was happy that the RCCCF has been listed as being in good standing with CRA.

President David was happy that PDG Peter attended the meeting, and also happy for the end of the 8:30 a.m. golf steering committee meetings.

Birthdays and anniversaries

Alan Roberts had an anniversary and Gord Zacharias had a birthday.

Other committee announcements:

Jack said that the Assiniboine Forest outdoor classroom area is starting to take shape and the committee is hoping that it will be finished before the snow comes. And a sign is coming.

Westminster Housing Society is still looking for volunteers for the work bee and barbeque.

Following dinner, Jack DeCorby introduced our guest speakers, Jerry and Dennis from Woodhaven Menshed.

Menshed had 73 members in 2023, 95 in 2024 and 111 as of their AGM in April.

Men show up not just for the activities, but for each other.

They re-discover purpose, connection and laughs.

Older men, especially following retirement, are at increased risk for depression, anxiety and even suicide. Menshed is all about connection.

Menshed started in Australia, and Winnipeg had the first Menshed in Canada. There are now 170 Mensheds in Canada and it continues to grow.

Woodhaven Menshed will celebrate Men’s Day on November 19th with an open house.

They showed some completed projects: a walking stick, a talking stick, face carvings. They also play cards and board games, and even have a band. They are working on an airplane and drones, have a book lending club, and will be instituting workouts. Cooking clubs will be coming soon.

They also are involved in community projects: building thirteen above ground gardens for Deer Lodge, pick tables for Camp Manitou, a collage at Bruce Oake and Little Free Libraries. And they have guest speakers. 

Some members have come due to recommendations from their doctors.
