President David Soper opened the meeting with the club's land acknowledgement and the singing of O'Canada led by Dave Morris.

Chair Announcements

• On August 18th, Breezy Bend will be hosting a large tournament and be unable to accommodate us. The Board will come up with an alternative: perhaps another meeting in the Forest.
• President David offered condolences to anyone who was at the last football game. It was very sad.

Glenn reminded everyone about the golf tournament coming up on September 10th. Proceeds will go to support the green spaces (Assiniboine Forest, Grant’s Mill and Living Prairie Museum) in west Winnipeg.  Please play if you can, recruit your friends and family to play, and promote in any way you can. Don’t worry if you’re not a good golfer. It will be a ‘best ball’ format, so you will have support. And President David and Past President Cathy will be battling for last place and second last place.

LLoyd reports two new members. Gord Zacharias has opted to return to ‘active’ status, and Doug Eyolfson has accepted an honourary membership.

Sergeant Mike introduced our guests: Margaret Hemphill, Rick Rosenthal and Peggy Talbot. (Ankita Soni and Rev. Dr. James Christie arrived a little later.)

President David introduced our speaker, Rick Rosenthal. Rick is developing a customer paper photo greeting card business, that helps customers create personalized greeting cards.

Rick used President David to do a demonstration. Your own photos,and even video and audio can be included on the cards. YouTube and Vimeo are two of the platforms that can be used. The cost is approximately $20 for the app, plus printing costs of about 3 cents a copy.

Cards can be printed, or they can be sent electronically.

Next we had a pair of speakers, Rev. Dr. James Christie and Ankita Soni. Dr. Christie is an ordained minister in the United Church of Canada, a professor of theology, and a writer.

Dr. Christie led and talked about the work that Ankita has been doing to promote Hope Igniters of Winnipeg. Ankita is a pharmacist, and the own of the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in Kenaston Village Mall. She is also a member of the Winnipeg Rotary Club. She is the key event organizer of Winnipeg’s first Reconciliation Walk.

Happy Bucks

• Ed Thompson accidentally backed his motorhome into his car. The happy part was that after some DIY removal of dents, the only cost was $57 for paint.
• Nick was happy to have visited Vancouver where he swam in the very cold Pacific Ocean. He had already been to the Atlantic.
• Lloyd reported a commotion at his house just as they were about to leave for the meeting. His daughter, who usually takes care of their cat, was away. And the cat found a chipmunk under the kitchen table. Lloyd was happy to report a successful ‘catch & release.’
• Jack W. had a birthday and he wanted us to sing to him. Yay!

Nancy M. had the lucky ticket in the 50/50 draw, and she found the blue marble. Congratulations Nancy.

There were no fines.

Next week’s speaker will come to us via zoom he is Peter Jollands and will talk about the Vege Plans for Survival Program.
