The Rotary Club of Charleswood had an offsite meeting this week. We met at the Manitoba Electrical Museum & Education Centre, 860 Harrow St., Winnipeg.
The museum presents Manitoba’s electrical history and the story of hydroelectric development in Manitoba from 1870 to today. This unique experiential museum guides visitors through the safe and efficient use of electricity and demonstrates how electrical energy works.
Visitors of all ages can:
- travel through the pre-electricity days of the late 1800s;
- discover the beginnings of hydroelectric power;
- learn about the first uses of electricity in the province
- follow the evolution of modern electric appliances
- peek into a 1940s farm kitchen
- see a scaled operating model of a wind turbine
- learn how generating stations are built in Manitoba
- have a glimpse into current and future electrical development in Manitoba
Prior to our tour of the site, the 27 Rotarians and guests present enjoyed pizza, chicken and refreshments. We were even presented with an ice cream sandwich for dessert. This was all arranged by Mike Dudar, Gord Zacharias and Darvin Jasper (apologies if I missed anyone here!).
Just a couple of announcements to keep everyone current;
1.- There will be a board meeting prior to the Monday meeting at Breezy Bend on Nov. 4th, 2019. Starts at 4:30pm and any club member is invited to attend.
2.- Christmas dinner is booked for December 16th, 2019 at Breezy Bend. Tickets will be available from Catherine and Paul at the Nov. 4th meeting. Tickets are $30/per person.
3.- Presentation at Nov.4th meeting to be determined.
As this meeting was an informal gathering, there were no Happy Bucks, fines or 50/50.
