Rotary Moment - President Glenn gave a special welcome to Kristy. Kristy's husband and son were in a serious vehicle accident while visiting in the U.S. Her husband Trevor has undergone an extensive program of rehabilitation. Thankfully, the latest report is that he is doing much better and is contemplating a return to work.

The Club's Board of Directors just held a special meeting to consider a report from Nancy Hansen, Chair, of the Rotary Club of Winnipeg Charleswood Satellite Club. The Board is very pleased to confirm the sponsorship of the satellite club and welcome 8 new members. In addition to Nancy, the new club members are Cade Kuehl, Winnipeg, Denise Walker, Smiths Falls, ON, Eira Braun-Labrossiere, St. Albert, AB, Joe Kaufert, Winnipeg, MB, Leigh Henry, Sanford, MB, Martin Braun-Labossiere, St. Albert, AB, and Wesley Hazlitt, Winnipeg, MB. As it happens, Wes will be our guest speaker next Monday, Rotary Polio Day. President Glenn congratulated Nancy on reaching this pivotal stage in establishing the new Satellite Club. We will look for an opportunity to celebrate.

Assiniboine Forest - Jack Wilson showed photos of the new main sign at Chalfont and Grant to be installed soon. They appear to be built to last!!

The Club's Board of Directors is holding a special planning meeting to consider membership recruitment and retention. It is being held on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at the Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce. Warren Thompson, member of Assiniboia West will facilitate the session for us.

Ukraine Project /Forest - Mandy reported that we are now starting to collect furniture and household items for our Ukrainian Refugee families. She printed some colour copies of a flyer for placement in some of our local areas. If you would like to share, please feel free to print in colour and place in your community. Please record your locations you place flyers so that when it is time to remove them, you will know which locations to go to. An electronic copy of the flyer has been emailed to you.

Cindy wrote to the club inquiring about the availability of donations/ grants. We followed up and asked that she present to the club. Cindy's father was a longtime member of the Rotary downtown club and she participated in MUNA as a high school student.

Project Linus is a world-wide charity that gives new, handmade, washable blankets and quilts to children who are seriously ill, grieving or have been through a traumatic event. It is 100% volunteer non-profit organization with 4 Manitoba chapters in Winnipeg, Brandon, Stonewall and Selkirk. In Canada, over 43,000 blankets have been donated through Project Linus.

Spread the word to your quilting friends and family members, about what Project Linus does and how to find me (on the website). Donations: Of quilts and blankets, of fabric, sewing and knitting supplies, of $ for those boring things like laundry detergent and quilt batting. Of time helping with: Contacting quilt groups, putting information up on a Facebook page, brainstorming ideas (events or fundraising). Sarge Mike Dudar asked for Happy Dollars and birthdays and anniversaries. Anya celebrated a birthday last week and was treated to the signing of Happy Birthday.

Guest Len Van Roon drew a 50/50 ticket belonging to Dave Morris. Dave did not draw the elusive blue marble.

Next week (October 24) will be focused on World Polio Day, with Wes Hazlitt, guest speaker. There will be no meeting on Monday, October 31.
