President Glenn began the meeting with the Treaty 1 land acknowledgement and the singing of O'Canada. Rotary Moment - President Glenn gave a special welcome to Kristy. Kristy's husband and son were in a serious vehicle accident while visiting in the U.S. Her husband Trevor has undergone an extensive program of rehabilitation. Thankfully, the latest report is that he is doing much better and is contemplating a return to work. Club announcements: Club members are invited to honour Darvin Jasper with an afternoon of music, song and stories on Saturday, October 22, 2:30 p.m. Location is the Royal Ball Room at the Viscount Gort Hotel, 1670 Portage Ave. The Club's Board of Directors just held a special meeting to consider a report from Nancy Hansen, Chair, of the Rotary Club of Winnipeg Charleswood Satellite Club. The Board is very pleased to confirm the sponsorship of the satellite club and welcome 8 new members. In addition to Nancy, the new club members are Cade Kuehl, Winnipeg, Denise Walker, Smiths Falls, ON, Eira Braun-Labrossiere, St. Albert, AB, Joe Kaufert, Winnipeg, MB, Leigh Henry, Sanford, MB, Martin Braun-Labossiere, St. Albert, AB, and Wesley Hazlitt, Winnipeg, MB. As it happens, Wes will be our guest speaker next Monday, Rotary Polio Day. President Glenn congratulated Nancy on reaching this pivotal stage in establishing the new Satellite Club. We will look for an opportunity to celebrate. Assiniboine Forest - Jack Wilson showed photos of the new main sign at Chalfont and Grant to be installed soon. They appear to be built to last!!
The Club's Board of Directors is holding a special planning meeting to consider membership recruitment and retention. It is being held on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at the Assiniboia Chamber of Commerce. Warren Thompson, member of Assiniboia West will facilitate the session for us. Ukraine Project /Forest - Mandy reported that we are now starting to collect furniture and household items for our Ukrainian Refugee families. She printed some colour copies of a flyer for placement in some of our local areas. If you would like to share, please feel free to print in colour and place in your community. Please record your locations you place flyers so that when it is time to remove them, you will know which locations to go to. An electronic copy of the flyer has been emailed to you. |
