Chair Announcements

DG Wayne is looking for a ride to get a conference speaker, Ramish Ferris, back to Winnipeg on Saturday evening.

D5550 membership committee will meet by Zoom on May 14th at 7 pm.

It was noticed that the donation link to Friends of the Forest was not working. Glenn has now fixed it. The QR code in the Forest also does not work.

RI emailed that the video Create Lasting Change is now available.

Lloyd told us that our club is entitled to three votes at the District Conference in Neepawa. At the Board meeting, President David and Lloyd were chosen. We now have three votes, and David will not be going to Neepawa, so Glenn moved that Lloyd, Cathy, and LeeAnn be our voting delegates. Jean seconded the motion and it was carried.

Joyce DeCorby shared her experience with Lyme Disease. She showed slides that explained how to identify the black-legged tick, which is the carrier. Black-legged ticks are now common in Manitoba. They have been here since prehistoric times.

Lyme disease is serious and debilitating. It can lead to long-term problems if not treated promptly. The ‘bulls eye rash’ does not always appear. If you get a tick, remove it, and submit it for identification.

Jack Wilson said that the province has provided cautionary signage. Maintaining the trails helps, as does staying on the trails when using the Forest. Wearing long pants, and tucking your pants into your socks can help prevent ticks from attaching to your body.

Dawn Hanson gave her new member talk.

Dawn was born in Treherne, the first of eight siblings. The family moved to Winnipeg when she was three.

Dawn has lost a child and her husband. She worked as a school psychologist.

Happy Bucks

Lloyd saw cars everywhere at Breezy Bend yesterday and thought maybe it was a wedding, and would result in us getting prime rib tonight. Alas, it was a funeral and there is no prime rib.

Alan’s flowering shrub has flowered. It came from BC 15 years ago and has thrived here.

Jack Wilson survived the weekend. He blew off his driveway by renting a power broom.

Chuck was happy to have been able to go ice fishing on May 1st. He stayed dry, and caught a 10 lb pike.

Ed Thompson enjoyed the nice weather on the weekend and is hoping that his motor home will be ready to go to the district conference.

Mike is going on a cruise and will be away for three weeks.

Jack D. is happy that Joyce will be delivering her lyme disease talk.
