Portage la Prairie area residents who might find they have some paper back or hard cover books, old music CDs and VHS & DVD movies that are collecting dust would be interested in this event.

The Portage Rotary Club is looking for donations for its first ever Gigantic Used Book, Magazine, CD Music and Movie Sale.

The Rotary Club of Portage and the Portage Mall has teamed up to put on a huge used book, music and movie sale at the Portage Mall from June 8 to June 12.

The Rotary Club is looking for thousands of books, CDs and movies that people can donate to the sale. Drop off locations have been set up at the following locations: Off the Top, Portage Supermarket, Shoppers Drug Mart, Panko's Food Centre, Sobeys, Portage Co-op, Canadian Tire and Seasons Family Restaurant in the Portage Mall.

People can drop off their donations at any of these locations or they can contact any Rotary Club member and arrange for free at home pickup. They can call a member or email their pickup request to: portagerotary@hotmail.ca

A member will then contact the person to make pickup arrangements.

"Everyone has a pile of books, magazines, a bunch of old CDs (now that everyone has music digitally downloaded these days), and old movies on VHS & DVD," says Rotary Book Sale chairperson Derek McCutcheon. "We are hoping people will be very generous. It gives everyone a chance to clean their bookshelves, closets and storage areas and donate their books, music and movies to a great cause," notes McCutcheon.

The Rotary is asking for people not to donate old encyclopedias, textbooks, old computer tutorials and news type magazines as individuals would not purchase them.

Times of the book sale will be June 8-10 from 1 pm to 8 pm, Saturday 10 am – 6 pm and Sunday noon – 4 pm. Soft cover books will start at $1 each – with large hardcover books up to $5. Magazines will run at twenty five to fifty cents, $2 for CD and movie titles. This mall promotion is likely to bring many people to the mall.

Sunday will be the discount day where the Rotary Club wants to sell most remaining items at further discount prices.

"This sale will be the perfect opportunity for people to clear their homes of old books, movies and CDs. They can stock up for summer at the sale for summer reading while saving a lot of money by purchasing gently used books," says Portage Rotary Club president, Donny Todoruk.

Individuals can turn in their donations or make pickup requests until June 4. All books will be sorted and priced and grouped into categories such as novels, travel, history, etc. to make browsing and shopping more convenient.
